Learning is a daily thing when we open our minds to it we grow to become better people but when we fail to do it becomes difficult for us to catch up with what is happening in the now and on the long run people will find it difficult to relate with us because our ideology will always be different from theirs. Who will always want to relate with someone who do not accept other people's few or someone who acts from the 20th century while we are in the 21st century.
This heart of learning is one thing I have resolved in my heart to keep doing. Most times the elderly just feel that it is only from them that wisdom can be learnt but that is not always the truth. You can learn good things from the kids too, one can also be corrected by the children. The beauty in this is that it makes the children also feel value and that they are also growing to reason in a good way. Just this morning I was encouraging my teenage son to make sure to read when he gets to school early not just to be working around, how I put it was, "make sure you put something in your head". My daughter who I was trying to fix her hair said, no the correct thing is, "make sure to put something in your mind". As funny as that sounds it was the correct thing to be said so I just smile and corrected myself.
This is one issue I have been battling with my Mom, she finds it difficult to accepts what the kids said. This same thing makes me angry and most times when she asks my opinion I will ask her what's the point of saying something while she already knows what to do. Sometimes I just reluctantly make my input and most times she will not bother to take it and before you know it she is already in a fix. This is something that would have just been avoided, but no she won't hear.
Just last week I told her she can't be more holy than the holy spirit. She insisted to buy a land from a relative which I told her that I wasn't comfortable with, she said that our eldest son also warned against that too but she refused. Today that land is in dispute, she claimed she was try to help the man pay the child's school fees and I told her it would have just been better if she just gifts them some good cash then forgets about the land.
Many times what stops people from admitting to a fault then learning a new thing or habit is simply defined by me as pride. Deep within they will be like, why should I just learn from this person. What I have and my idea is worth it so there is not need at all. Another factor is the place of I am always right. When you meet people like this, you just feel like whatever thing you will say is going to be a waste. They just want it to be that they are the only ones who are saying what will be done. Personally, I do my best to say what I feel in a matter and allow matters be. When it is now happening I will still remind them of my stands.
Like in my case, when it turned bad and she came back with the complain I still reminded her of my stands and she still stands that she do not regret her actions and opened up that my brother was saying same thing with me. I still insisted that she should learn to list to her children as that will save her lots of mess. Most of the lesson is not really for her now but for us. She told me that she already told the sons not to have anything to do with that family, in my heart I just smiled. More to the land issue which her money would have just been spared the man has done a lot of evil already to the point of trying to sell of most of our family lands. I stillwater remember I told her that this same young man that she is giving our lands to cultivate hope he won't sell them off the way he is doing his own inherited land, she still waved it.
When I learn from these scenarios it will help me know how to train my children, also getting to know better ways of working with my kids will help me so much. Things are changing, understanding to things gets more improved a time will come that what I see as correct the kids will come up to tell me there are better approach to them, the humility to listen and learn from them will help me in no little way.
We all learn daily and must embrace it for the sake of growth and more.
That's the truth, we just have to
