Closing The Chapter

in Hive Learners2 days ago

2025 has been a year of lessons and I’m so glad I made it to the final weeks. January feels like yesterday and yet it feels so far behind. Sometimes, when I remember certain experiences, I go “Wasn’t it just February when I did this thing, and now we are in the closing weeks of the year?” So many things had been going my way from the first day of January up until December 1st. I was looking forward to the year ending so I would beat my chest and boldly say, “This year is my best year so far.” But for the first time in the year, I missed HPUD. Meaning, I participated in HPUD from January till November only for me to miss December. Not only that, ever since this month started, a lot of crazy things have been happening, and I just hope I get right back on track so the good things will start happening again.

Looking back, 2025 has been a whirlpool of challenges, surprises, experiments and more importantly, achievements. This year, I broke records. Records I thought were impossible. This brings me to today’s Hive Learners’ prompt: THE FINAL MONTH. As 2025 rolls to a close, what are the highlights of the year for us? What are our major achievements this year?

This year, I graduated from the university. I am grateful to God for the growth and strength he gave me to keep moving. I am the last child of my family and this year, I made my parents and siblings proud. I didn’t just graduate from the university, I graduated with one of the best grades in my set. My country’s schooling system is not an easy feat. It wasn’t easy to read and understand complex courses. Courses that required all-nighters. There were days I fell sick and was unable to move an inch. When I got better, I still managed to read and as usual, I passed the exams.

Throughout my 5 years in the university, I never gave my parents a reason to worry. Although my school is very far from my parents’ house, they were always rest assured that their child was doing well. In an environment where a lot of students smoke, drink and party, I choose a different and right path! I believe that the fact that I graduated from the university is my biggest achievement so far.

Moving on, another achievement I think made this year amazing is my completion of the NYSC orientation camp. It takes a graduate to enroll for NYSC camp and before I even got into the university, I had always been looking forward to the day when I would enroll and wear the NYSC uniform. The green Khaki looked good on siblings, cousins and older friends that I promised myself that one day, I will also look good in the uniform! And here I am today! Wearing the NYSC uniform with pride and honor.

Writing every day for 330 days; an achievement that fell along the road. I mentioned earlier that although this year started well and was even going well until the beginning of the month when crazy and painful things happened. Well, this is one of them. I missed my posting streak. I wanted the yearly badge and had been writing since the first day of January, only for me to miss it on December 7th. While this is very painful, I cannot overlook this achievement. It takes a lot of dedication and consistency to achieve these numbers, and I’m proud of myself.

There are so many other things I achieved this year, but these are the ones I’m comfortable sharing, at least for now.

Reading through this, I had different thoughts and emotions but most of them were just that of gratitude. Indeed God has been so good and faithful to you. This year was fast but at the same time it also feels short. You’ve accomplished so much and I’m really proud of you.

The stories even make more sense when we have challenges but come out of them stronger, wiser and better and that’s to show us how God is building the story with us. Sorry about the misses but as you’ve rightly said, those are still great achievements because you did way better than the previous years.

We still have some weeks to go before the year ends and I pray God grants you more reasons to praise him and complete this chapter of your life beautifully.

Well done, Favey. ❤️
