One Platform The World Can Live Without

in Hive Learnersyesterday

In the world we live in today, social media has become an essential part of everyday life. Of course, some people can do without them for a long period, while for others, not having access to these platforms feels like a part of them is missing. That is exactly how I feel when I do not have data. There are countless platforms, each created with a different purpose in mind. For example, I use Instagram to watch reels and sometimes I even chat with friends there. WhatsApp is strictly for getting updates from class and also chatting with friends. I’m not really a fan of Twitter, I only go there when I need to find something specific. My point is that the importance of these social media platforms cannot be overemphasized.

They are spaces where people connect with great minds, share their crafts, and learn from others who are also in the same field. They are spaces for people to have fun. But when we look closely at these social media platforms, they seem like a double edged sword. They have their advantages and disadvantages. Although the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, we cannot overlook the fact that these platforms can sometimes be a menace. So, which social media platform has been quite a menace that if you had the power, you would put a stop to it? This brings me to today’s Hive Learners’ prompt: BANNED FOR LIFE.

If you had the power to ban one social media platform for life, never to be used again by people, what platform would it be? It took a long while before my eureka moment came. I kept struggling to arrive at an answer. What platform would I ban? The well-known social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are playing important roles in society. These are places where people advertise their crafts. By monetizing their account, people make good money from these apps. Banning them would mean taking away their source of income.

However, there is one social media platform that I would ban for life without thinking twice. Not just one social media platform in particular, but all platforms relating to it. DATING PLATFORMS! Yes! If I had the power to ban one type of social media platform forever never to be used again my choice would be dating platforms. Just like every other platform, dating platforms have their advantages and disadvantages, but conversely, the disadvantages are more than the advantages.

The purpose of dating platforms is to bring people together. The outside world can be dangerous and not many people have what it takes to find love out there. These platforms are meant to quench that fear, right? Well, the reverse is the case nowadays. Recently, I came across a video of a man who had been single all his life. He had been craving love and affection for years, so he decided to try finding love on a social media platform. Unfortunately, he became entangled with someone he believed was a “beautiful woman.” Unknown to him, this “beautiful woman” was actually a man using a fake profile. On the man’s side, he thought he had found love. But on the other side, the impostor simply found someone to deceive for amusement.

Well, they decided to meet and that was when the truth was revealed. The man was heartbroken while the other person kept laughing because his joke paid off. Let's not even talk about the number of scams that happen on these platforms. Yes, they might have helped people to connect, but I think they have done more harm than good. If you are genuinely looking for love and affection, I do not think dating platforms are where you should go. Of course, this is just my opinion.

Summarily, if I had the power to ban one type of social media platform forever never to be used again my choice would be dating platforms and that is because they have done more bad than good and I believe we can do without them.

Lol I think dating apps are more useful and funny than others media, at leas here you meet new people face to face 🤣

If you ban dating platform now
How do you want Nigerian girls to meet their American prince charming 😅
But what you said is fact, the rate of impersonation there is much, faking at the expense of another's joy and happiness.
Sometimes I wonder if truly people find their soulmate through dating sites because me I see it as a game app
