Arsenal have signed 22 year old Norway international Martin Odegaard for an initial £30m fee plus bonuses. Martin Odegaard completed his medical in London on Wednesday. During the second half of last season Martin Odegaard made 20 appearances for Arsenal, after that came back to Spain hoping his way back to Real Madrid’s main team which didn’t happen. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said he wanted Martin Odegaard in his squad before transfer window closes on August 31. Arsenal began to negotiate with the Spanish giants Real Madrid earlier in the summer over a permanent deal, after Odegaard impressed Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta on loan during the second half of last season. The key moment of this transfer was when Real Madrid reduced the asking price to £30 million from £55 million.
If Martin Odegaard completes his registration by midday on Friday, he will be available to face Chelsea on Sunday. Many news reports have confirmed that Arsenal enquired about Leicester City's James Maddison and Lyon's Houssem Aouar but changed their mind back to Odegaard when they got to know that both the player and Madrid were willing to reach an agreement. Arsenal is continuing to push for a deal for Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who wants a move to the London club. The clubs are now working on the overall fee and the structure of the deal. There were rumors about Barcelona trying to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. But transfer experts have denied these rumors.
Arsenal will desperately try to forget their season opening match against Brentford by beating Chelsea in their next match, which won’t be an easy task for them.
