Surviving The High Cost Of Living As A Student

in Hive Learnerslast month

The cost of living is killing the living, things are so expensive that sometimes I ask myself questions on how I spend my money. You have one credit alert and the next minute its debit alert nonstop. The cost of transportation,feeding,data,and every other thing that man needs to survive is not for the weak.
Before I got into the university, I would see my friends complaining every single day about how expensive things are and how hard it is to keep up with their day to day expenses, I couldn't relate until now.

So I decided to stay off campus since the school had a rule of no cooking. I thought about buying two square meals every day and it'd be too much expenses, so I decided to rent a house off campus with my friends so the expenses would be lesser, but guess what? Things are still so expensive, the only difference is that I get to eat a home cooked meal and to my satisfaction, and the worst part of all this is that my house is very far from school .
I leave the house very early in the morning, and come back home in the evening, so you can say I spend almost all my day in school.

On a typical day, I spend at least 4k, now that sounds like a lot of money but really it's not.
Transportation to and fro to school= 800
Water= 200
Snacks=1500
Pay charge =300
And Impromptu pay for this and that
Now you might be wondering why don't I just look for a house close to school; well getting a house close to school requires a lot of money. Houses closer to school are way more expensive and to see a house close to school is by connection. You need to at least know an angel in heaven that would tell you when there's a vacancy lol

When I get home after a long day, I'd have to think about what to eat and then buy what I'd use in cooking. Sometimes when I cook, the food carries me for two days. Since we don't have light, I don't cook too much so the food wouldn't go bad.
Now we haven't even talked about how much I spend for my toiletries and other supplies for the month.
I always make sure to buy my things in bulk. E.g pad, soap, dettol, tissue,cream, toothpaste, detergent,bleach and washing soap, deodorant and perfumes. These are things I always make sure to have at home so I won't have to bother myself for the whole semester. Apparently the cost of those things I mentioned above aren't the same in my town and school. the price is double in my school
.

I understand because things are always quite expensive in school areas, that's why I make sure to buy them from home before coming to school.
I always make sure to buy at least half a carton of noodles, a pack of custard, and a carton of biscuits and keep them in my box for rainy days and whenever I'm too lazy to cook. They've been a lifesaver for me.
Truth is that I can't run away from school, I'd have to put up with this for the next four years, after all I signed up for it but like I said, I buy everything in bulk from home, so in school, I just have to focus on feeding, transport, buying workbooks, data and other school dues.

I don't spend money on food outside, I'm always calculating when it comes to how I spend my money but my bank account is always frowning at me.
Hive is my only source of income so for now, I'm thinking of starting a baking business in school that way I'd have extra cash to cover for most of my expenses.
Hopefully things go as planned next semester 👌

About the new business idea, you guys are the first to know, I haven't told anyone yet lol. Thanks for stopping by ❤️

I moved closer to school but not into the hostel cause in addition to not being able to share a room with too many people, my school hostel doesn't allow cooking. Stuff is so expensive around school. I wonder whoever told landlords and salespeople that students have money. Students are barely able to go by the day, yet these people just want to rip them off.

Even with how frugal and calculation I am, I still can't tell what's going on with my finances.

Hmm, guy!!! When we find that person, they'll collect 😂....
They think everyone is rich forgetting that it's everyone that's struggling in this economy.
10k a week is nothing oo

School life is not for the week ranging from diverse stuff and as for me I prefer cooking my meals rather than buying out cause of expenses nonetheless God we see us through.

Eating at home is the best oo, coz buying food outside all the time is for rich kids 😅
