Within each artistic manifestation or event there is a purpose, but the question arises: is every work of art, every artistic performance, really good? Or are there those that just aren't?
Art is something personal. You have to feel it. At the same time, it is simple and complex, and perhaps that is precisely where its beauty lies. Within this manifestation, we can imagine two points: A and B. The artist and the viewer need to be in tune for the “simple” to happen. The transmission of the artist's feeling must be received by the viewer, and thus the emotions, ideas, or vision fulfill their role through the work.
In a more complex way, the problem arises when the viewer is not open to that expression. This can involve many variables: a bad day, lack of sensitivity, distraction, or anything else on the part of the receiver, point B. But there are also variables within point A, the artist, including the same causes as point B. Perhaps using such an “exact” analogy is not ideal for expressing this idea, but often labeling art as “bad” does not mean that it really is, but rather that one of the sides is not in tune, but not only that.
Of course, there are artists who manage to direct this harmony so perfectly that anyone feels touched, regardless of conditions and sensitivity. Can we call them geniuses? Or recognize certain works that, at their peak, seem to live on their own. Sometimes it's not even the artist, sometimes it's just the art. Still, I believe that, among so many works and expressions, there are indeed bad arts, as in any other area, even though this is so subjective and personal.
It has become common for me to come across types of expressionism, especially on social media, that simply do not make sense. You have probably seen people writhing on the floor covered in paint, in almost spasmodic and random movements, while the audience around them applauds. A performance that causes a certain amount of embarrassment, because it seems so ridiculous. Is this art? Maybe I'm too closed-minded for this type of artistic expression, but it's not something that arouses emotion in me. I could say that I don't find it beautiful, but art doesn't always have to be beautiful. Still, there are limits, and not everything should be called art.
I'm not sure why this kind of thing exists. As I said, maybe I'm a closed-minded person and don't have the artistic sensibility necessary to understand this kind of expression. Talvez eu tenha uma mente muito fechada para esse tipo de expressão artística, mas não é algo que me desperte emoção. Eu poderia dizer que não acho belo, mas nem sempre a arte precisa ser bela. Ainda assim, existem limites, e nem tudo deveria ser chamado de arte.
