I just got to learn about viral load

in Hive Learners2 years ago

I was reading a news about a man who was HIV positive and all his kids are HIV negative and his wife is still negative too.

When I read the news I was really surprised that how can a HIV positive man have sex with his wife several times yet the wife still remains negative and all their children are negative too..It came as a shock to me so I quickly went to the internet to read about the possibility of a HIV positive person having unprotected sex with someone yet the person still remained negative..

It was during the process that I learnt about something which is called "Viral load " and also how it plays a vital role in determining if the HIV virus can be spread to another person or not..

So what is the viral load? I learnt that the viral load can simply be defined as the measure of the amount of HIV virus which is present in the body of the HIV person..The HIV viral load helps to predict how fast the HIV will progress in the body of the person..The lower the viral load the higher the chances of preventing damage which can be caused by the HIV..

I learnt that there are anti-retroviral drugs that the HIV patient can take in order to help reduce the viral load and even make it undetectable......I learn that When the HIV viral load is undetectable, then there is little to no risk of infecting others...

So yeah it is possible for a person that is HIV positive to sleep with a HIV negative person and the Hiv negative person will not be infected if the HIV positive person have an undetectable viral load...And this can be achieved if the HIV positive person is taking the anti-retroviral drugs consistently and obeying all the instructions given to him or her by the doctor...

Though there are some technicalities concerning the viral load and how to prevent infecting others , but I just learnt the basic things on how possible it is for a HIV negative person to sleep with a HIV positive person and still not get infected by them..

But it is advisable to stay safe , abstinence is still the best...and if you want to have sex protected or unprotected, make sure you know the HIV status of your partner...

But it is advisable to stay safe , abstinence is still the best...and if you want to have sex protected or unprotected, make sure you know the HIV status of your partner” — this just sums it up , it’s either abstinence , protected sex and most importantly knowing one’s hiv status as well as the partner’s . Educative write up by the way , learning about this viral load of a thing for the first time , you’re making hive learners informative. Keep it up!!

I am glad you find it informative..thanks..
