Does Distance Define Friendship?

They say no man is an island and it couldn’t have been said any better. We were born into this earth into families where we are being supported and raised to be great people in the future. Now, imagine being born as a baby with no one. How would you survive? This is to tell us that no matter how much we feel we don’t need people in our lives, we do.

I grew up seeing my family relate with my neighbors very well and even living like one big family. The first friends I made in my first few years of life were people I didn’t like I would lose contact with. But today, I don’t know where some of them are. Regardless, they made my life easier and happier even though we didn’t know much then.

Speaking of friendships, everyone of us has friends unless we want to be aliens. I for one have a few close friends in my circle and a billion and one acquaintances. And each of these people have a role to play in my life in one way or the other. Thanks to the advancement of social media, we weren’t and aren’t limited to just making friends in person. Things have actually changed a lot from the days we had to be friends with our classmates and those around us at home because where else would we make friends. Today , with internet connection on my phone, I can make friends from all over the world.

Since I started using social media, I’ve actually made so many friends online. Some I’ve met, some I haven’t. Some I’m in touch with, some I’ve lost touch with. And I can tell you with my full chest that some of these people I met online are part of the most amazing people I’ve met in my life. Not to look far, let me talk about my dear friend @jhymi who I met right here on this blockchain. We haven’t actually met before, but we’ve grown to become like sisters. We talk, we have phone calls and help in other in any way we can. What more could I ask for?

Even though we are not able to see each other every blessed day, we still understand the situation has have found our own ways to keep it kicking. Some of the friends I have in person can’t even match up to how much @jhymi and I bond. As far as we are alive and making it in this life, I know that one day we would finally get to meet each other and honestly, I believe we’d still vibe like we do online and more.

To me, friendship doesn’t have to come to an end as a result of distance or anything whatsoever. So far as you both know what you’re in for and value each other very well, you’d be fine. Whether it is face to face or online, a real friendship will always be strong.
