My Borderless Dream

in Hive Learners7 days ago

I have always believed the best stories begin where the map ends, and for someone like me that loves to travel alot this Hive Learner's prompt resonates with me. I have traveled and explored so many states in my country already. From the rocky hills of Jos to the mangrove swamps of the Niger Delta, and even the beautiful Agbokim waterfall of Cross River state.

There are so many beautiful places, cultures and foods in my country. But I believe there are even more intresting cultures across the border. We share boundaries with countries like Benin, Cameroon, and the Republic of Chad. I have always wanted to visit and explore some of these countries but just like with every country's border, they are restrictions to non citizens and so I can't possibly go in to explore.

But what if someone handed me the keys and handles the immigration headaches? Giving me access and a solo drive to visit and explore other countries across the border. With no airport, just a long distance drive, this is how my journey would be.

I would Visit Ghana First

My main aim of visiting this country would be to compare their jollof rice to the Nigerian Jollof so I can know which is better. I have always seen these debate everywhere on who has the best Jollof rice in Africa. I have always believed Nigeria has the better jollof but I haven't really tasted any other country's jollof rice.

Apart from their food, I equally know Ghana has very beautiful tourist sites like the Boti Falls with umbrella rocks for relaxation and photography or the Kejetia market which is one of the biggest open air market in the whole of Africa.

The distance from Lagos to Ghana is about 450km which I consider a very long ride. But it would surely be worth it because just recently a popular live streamer called IShowSpeed visited Africa and from his tour to Ghana, we saw that he didn't just see places, he felt them instead.

He danced with strangers, ate things he couldn't name, he lets the continent surprise him and that's what I want. I believe that when I start exploring and enjoying the experience, I will forget the 12 hours solo drive, lol.

Potential Challenge On This Trip

In as much as I love to travel across the border, especially by road, the major challenge I would be concerned about is Security. Legend has it that for development to come to a certain region, they must have good roads, good power supply and most importantly good security.

Venturing into a region that is not secure is like walking into your own death (suicide). While the borderline between Ghana and Nigeria could be peaceful and safe for a ride, I would not say the same for the borderline between Nigeria and Chad.

For the past 16 years or more Borno state has been through hell and Boko Haram's shadow still looms near Chad. It wouod have been intresting to go see the great Lake Chad, but I don't think its worth it when your life is at stake here.

Nigerians love to explore, but it's only unfortunate that insecurity is stoping people from doing what they what.
