My Perspective Of Abortion

in Hive Learners17 days ago

When the context is about conception, miscarriage, and abortion, many people have a perspective to voice out. Some perspectives are based on factually proven logic while some perspectives are based on superstition, religious and societal acceptance or rejection.

Women are really important beings. They go through a lot. Their problems is not just about childbirth, but also includes hormone surges and reduction which brings about many systemic events. Worthy of note is the painful contractions that brings about endometrial shedding monthly, during their cycle. These hormonal changes can also result in quite a few attitudes that some people will find annoying.

Fertilization, pregnancy and childbirth is another stress that brings about excruciating pain to the lives of many women. Even abortion, the topic of this prompt, is also painful. Shout out to all the wonderful women in this community. You're stronger than you know.

This post is not about shouting out women, neither is it about talking about the pains women go through. However, it is an entry for Hive Learners prompt, abortion. In this post, I would share my perspective of abortion. I will share whether or not I see it as a good thing.

For a long time, the government and other medical agencies are constantly looking for ways to reduce the rate of abortion. Apart from adequate child spacing, and protection of maternal and child health, prevention of unwanted pregnancies among single girls and married couples, (thus, reducing the rate of criminal abortion) is another reason why Family Planning was adopted in Nigeria.

Societal beliefs, superstition and religious beliefs has made many people see abortion as a bad thing. Myself, I also see it as a bad thing, but then, when you look at it from a medical perspective, it can be a good thing when done with good intentions.

I thought just popped in my head, if abortion is a bad thing, does that means barrier contraception and coitus interruptus is also a bad thing? Welp it's just my thoughts... We can talk about your thoughts on this in the comment section.

From my perspective as a Family planning provider, I think abortion is not really a good thing, neither is it a bad thing. It all depends on the motive behind it.

For example, if a married woman is pregnant, and later on in the pregnancy, it was found out that the foetus has diverse congenital abnormalities that will greatly disrupt the babies activities of daily living, would it be a bad thing to abort the child and save them from suffering? To me, I think it's a good thing because I don't really think it's okay to bring a child into the world and watch them suffer all their life.

However, aside from these situations, I don't really think abortion is a good thing. This is why family planning was brought to the society. Unfortunately, due to religious beliefs and some other superstitious beliefs, people don't really go through with family planning.

Unwanted pregnancies has made people go into abortion. Some ladies live with the guilt of abortion for a long time, even after giving birth to a child.

There are many family planning methods that will save a married or unmarried couple from the disaster of abortion. To mention a few, barrier contraception, jadel, implants, IUD, vasectomy e.t.c.

As a sexual active lady, instead of exposing yourself to unwanted pregnancy, I think it will be nice to get a suitable family planning method. Coitus interruptus has a huge failure rate, thus, it's not adviced to trust or depend on it.

There's no shame in going to your local family planning providers unit, and seek for the best option that suits your medical and gynaecological history.

Thank you for reading.

Abortion is not good and God did not put hands on it. That's why there's contraceptive pills to use to prevent pregnancy for the singles and family planning for the married people.

True.. unfortunately, many people fail to use these pills

Abortion is never advisable because of the negative consequences it brings along later.

The use of contraceptives and family planning should be implemented by our youths and even married couples when necessary.

Nice entry

Abortion is never an option. I think people should do everything possible to prevented unwanted pregnancy, family planning is one of those things.
