In this digital day and age, smartphones is inarguably one of the most important inventions we have as humans. It is a game changer for the communication space as it made local, international and intercontinental communication to not only be easier, but it made it to be faster and very much cheaper.
Backed by the vast internet, the capabilities of the smartphone has grown drastically to reach newer heights that we didn't think we can ever attain. Unlike before where we need many different tools for our activities of daily living, we know have our compass, calculator, calendar, time, games, and even diverse forms of entertainment at the palm of our hands.

Smart phones are very important technological breakthrough. In this days and age, I can't imagine how it would be for someone to live without a smartphone. Everything has been digitalised, even the banking sector. Currently, it's no big deal if you don't have a physical ATM as you can use a virtual ATM or better-still, you can just transfer funds withing seconds.
I could go on and on about the merits of having a smart phone. However, there's one adage in my culture that says, "A sweet thing will directly or indirectly have the tendency to kill." Just like have these smart phones came with a whole lot of merits, it's disadvantages can be drastic.
I was once an addict to smartphones and other electronic gadget. I know how much I suffered and what I lost before I was able to greatly reduce my screen time. Even though majority of my online activities brought some revenue, the too many screen time affected my mental health in a way that caused quite a few harm to me.
Well, that's story for another day. Today, I would like to share my perspective on where I think smart phones should not be used. This post is an entry for hive learners prompt, so, It would focus mainly on answering the questions that was asked in the prompt.
Initially, I used to think that there is no limitations to using smart phones, that is, you can use smart phones anywhere without a care in the world. So long as the task you're doing online is accomplished, you're good to go. Little did I know that the constant phone usage will get to me in ways that I did not expect.
There are places where I think mobile phones should be banned. To me, I think the first place is in primary and secondary school (lower institution of learning).
Many students today are not afraid of bringing their mobile phones to school. During break time, some of them may go one side to play with their phones. When I was a primary/secondary school student, I dared not bring any electronic to school. The only thing we were allowed to bring was our watch. Aside that, every other thing would be seized with no hopes of receiving it back.

Even though this rule was in place, some of us actually find ways to bring out phones to school just to impress the girls. Lol. Back then, if you have a phone, the ladies will always want to be around you. It's like a magnet, so, we risk being flogged just to bring our phones to school.
I think if students are totally banned from bringing their smart phones to school, it will help them to concentrate on what the teacher is teaching, and not be distracted from lectures.
Another place where I think smart phones should be banned is during family time. Instead of connecting with family and extended family, people spend their time scrolling through endless videos on tictok or whatever social media application they can get their hands on.
At first, the scroll feels good, but one thing many people don't realise is that, just like some medications, the scrolling can be very addictive if not done properly.
I think it's better to keep phones and other gadgets one side during family time, and focus fully on any activity that's carried out there.
Thank you for reading.

Smartphones are amazing tools, but it’s so easy for them to steal our attention from learning and real family moments. Finding that balance feels more important than ever, but sadly very few manage to find it these days...
It's really very important to find the balance, however, not everyone are willing to discipline themselves enough to do that.
I think families will grow closer if they reduce their screen time and pay more attention to each other
Absolutely. In fact, everything starts with the older ones. And I don't know how is it is there, but on this end, the elderly people spend a lot of time on their phones/tablets. So it's not really the best influence one could get.
Over here, the reverse is the case. It starts with the younger ones, mostly, the Gen-Zs.
They spend hours on their phones. Even when sent on an errands by their parents, they complete the task while watching reels or doing something else in their phones.
This is gradually influencing the older population. I've started seeing a few of them spending a lot of time on their phone.
Thank you
Talking of family time, it is something that digitalization (smart phones) has caused many to loose such attention. It is as if smart phone is the new family now
True. Many people have made smartphones their everything. Instead of talking to an experienced family member about their depressive state, they go to chatgpt
This is really something to rethink over
True.. we really need to rethink it
