The Detours, Again...

Today was one of those days when I wished that we did things better where I am from. And coupled with the unexpected stress that I went through today, I remembered just why I was initially so disenchanted about this entire national youth service that I am undergoing.

Out of the blue, we received a memo stating that NIN (National Identification Number) would now be a requirement to log on to our pages on the NYSC (National Youth Service Corps) portal. Therefore, every service had to register theirs. On one end, it's a good thing, as it just helps link things together more easily. On the other end, their sudden announcement and the consequences tied to defaulting are just absurd.

Prospective corp members are now required to provide their NIN upon registration. What I wondered, however, was how people who may not have gotten their NIN yet would do henceforth with the new changes. Thankfully, I wasn't going to be negatively affected, so that's by the way.

Monday mornings at 8 are when I have my first class for the week, where I teach my students. So that was exactly what I had planned to do. Plans changed, however, as the complacency of the school authorities put me under conditions I didn't sign up for as the Corper Liaison Officer.

There was a memo—a different one—that had been sent since last year to the principals of schools in the local government, including the one at my school. For some reason, however, they did not receive it—mine, at least. As a matter of fact, no staff at the school knew about it.

The memo was an instruction to send the details of the serving corpers in the school to make them eligible for a sum of money to be disbursed at the end of each corpers service years. And it was important that they did it. For some reason, and sadly, this information did not get to my school authorities. Yet, the deadline is on Tuesday.

Monday morning, I showed up to have it all sorted out. On reaching there, I was asked to compile the list of corpers in the school. Taken aback by such a task, I replied, indicating that I should be getting the list from them and not the other way around. That was futile, however.

Since the school that registered the corpers didn't have the list, I went on to reach out to my colleagues and gather the necessary details from them. That took way longer than I thought, and it was even more tiring than I could have expected.

After hours of waiting and compiling, I finally got the list ready. And then I reached out to them. What I was told was just disappointing. I mean, after all of my efforts, it turned out that there was actually a list available—or so I figured out—and I just spent my entire day doing things that I didn't even plan, displacing my plans and stressing the hell out of me.

It's all good, and it's something I got used to serving as the class governor for my department back then in school. My only wish is that things were just a lot more effortless and seamless to do.

Sorry about the stress bro, I can imagine what you went through tiring put things in place. The NIN of a thing shouldn't be a problem since you have it, I don't know the recent urgency with this NIN of thing but I can tell that the government might just have another silly plot coming up soon.

I was just thankful that I had already done my own. I wonder what entered their heads this time to just spring it up like that
