We are in a computer age where technology has taken over almost everything. Truly technology has made life easier and doing many things now is easy.
Take for example the internet make communication flow so fast and reliable. All thanks to social media we can get instant messages, chat with love ones from different parts of the world, we can share our pictures, our videos even voice notes and documents.
But everything comes with their disadvantages, and some social media has really gone off the edge to influence people to doing crazy things for engagement and use.
There are a lot of Social Media apps out there, and I'm not gonna lie to you, all these apps are super addictive. Yeah I think they were built like that for some specific purpose.
One app I felt is really have an adverse effects on the Nigerian youths is The Tiktok app.
I have seen ladies go naked, do all sorts stupid things online for the sake of engagement.
I noticed that entertaining and engagement on Tiktok has become a breeding ground for a decay and corrupt values, this threaten the whole society.
I have seen many time firsthand, how the constant stream of Dance that was suggested, explicit songs and many Stupid challenges that promotes nothing but Nude, promiscuous behaviour and immoral life.
The results are very obvious, now we can see a lot of increased cases of teenage pregnancies, rising rates of sexual immorality, and a general decline in moral standards.
Many Ladies dresses very indecently, guys are more inclined to get money by all means possible and go into illegal business or services. The truth is our Young people are now being exposed to a toxic acts like narcissism, cloutchasing, self destruction.
I understand that many people will not agree with me on this , they might likely say we have other social media apps like Facebook, YouTube, twitter, thread, Instagram and many more
But it's not just about the Tiktok app having almost the same features with the others but the influence this app is having on people.
So many individual cases which I believe is about the cultural shift we're witnessing.
These one is a general issue, we get to see our Traditional values like respect, modesty, and humility are being removed and replaced by a Westernized culture that glorifies and encourages individualism and self-expression above all else.
It's quit worry some that we are walking down this lane of raising a generation that is very concerned about likes and followers than with dignity, self-respect, and the well-being of others.
This is not just in Nigeria it is a Pandemic that has spread everywhere.
So I am voting for a forever Tiktok ban,
Just take a look at TikTok's algorithm which when closer studied prioritizes sensational and provocative content, creating a global culture of decadence that's hard to escape. No doubt we have become soft and insensitive to what is acceptable and what's not, and our young people are paying the price.
My final verdict is that the Government should put in place a very Strong regulation on that app, if not possible then I will urge governments worldwide to consider banning TikTok. Right now is the time for us to prioritize the well-being of our societies and safeguard our values. We need to create a safer online space that promotes sanity , positivity , respect , and decency.
