Finding the perfect housing for rent

in Hive Learners2 months ago

Hello Everyone

One of the most difficult things to get in Nigeria that I know of is getting a rented place, although not that it's so hard to really get a place but it is very hard to really get a place that will suit your taste and expectations. Hunting for a House to Rent in Nigeria and specifically Lagos can need a lot of careful considerations.

Trust me some house can be super expensive,or lack the basics needs like good water, bad toilet or have some crazy rules from the landlord like: not allowing some people into your place, the time you must be indoors or the type of work you have to do lol.

I remembered the last time, I was on the hunt for a new place to call home in Makurdi, Benue State, and I am being super picky and careful. As someone who has been through the struggles of finding a decent House for rent, in this chaotic city, I have got some specific criteria for what makes a house a good fit for me.

Firstly for, location is key. I need a place that is very close to public transportation, markets, and other essential amenities.
Me I don't want to trek for miles every time I need to run an errand or get some stuff from myself.

I see a lot of Nigerian suffer this type of issue especially some of my friends in Lagos, most of them will have Houses in Lekki or Ajah but they will get a rented house in Ibeju Lekki or Epe, where It would take several hour before reaching their work place. This is not good at all because at the long run, they end up exhausting themselves and spending extra expenses transportation.

Secondly, safety is a top priority. I am looking for a house with a secure environment, preferably with CCTV cameras, a 24/7 security guard, and a gated community. I want to feel safe and secure in my home. Just imagine having to be in your house and you have to keep worrying about your valuables and others. Places like estates and the like is a great one that can be at least more secure than the ones out there without any form of security. With the rising of kidnappers and armed robbers, it is very advisable to get a very secure place.

Thirdly, space !, space!! Space!!!, yes I want a house with enough space to breathe. I am not looking for a tiny apartment that feels like a shoebox or Fishes packed into the Sardine Can lol. I need room to move around, some natural light, and good ventilation. It is funny how I see a lot of houses people paid hundreds of Thousand for aand eventually the place looks so small, some of the tenants can't even invite friends and family because of how small the place is

Lastly, basic amenities are a must. A very functional kitchen, reliable water supply, and a decent toilet are non-negotiable for me. I don't want to deal with leaky pipes or broken toilets all the time, or even good access to toilet.

Now, I have been thinking too, what if I was the landlord, I definitely know that one day I would become one, my principles would very clear, I would be a fair and understanding landlord.

I would make sure to establish open and transparent communication with my tenants, responding to their concerns and queries in a timely manner, I know such thing is very rare this days, since most of the time house care takers takes on that role, but even if I wasn't around and someone is acting on my behalf, I would instruct the person to always reach out to me promptly so that I can meet the needs of my tenants.

The price for rent would be very affordable and I will ensure that the rent is reasonable and reflective of the property's value. There will be a very prompt response on repairs and maintenance, responding quickly to any issues that arise in my house.

Thirdly, I would respect my tenants' space and privacy. I would not intrude unnecessarily or disrupt their daily lives like some Landlords do. Most of the time even before agreeing to rent my home for you I would screen you well to ensure that there is no clash with my principles.

This is my response to #hl-w180e1

Thank you all and have a blessed week❤️
