Hello Everyone,
It's not an understatement when we say that the rise of social media and many other online platforms has made it easier for content creators to monetize their content and earn a living from their passion.

Many people from Nigeria has keyed into this world of unlimited possibilities of getting your potential out there for the whole world to see and getting paid for it, I mean it's just like a dream come true for us.
The sudden rise of Comedians and skit makers in Nigeria shows that, people are really making good money from it.
People like: Mark Angel Comedy, Sabalo comedy, crazy clown, exploit comedy,Mr Shaggy and many more have been in the Content (skit) making industries for long and their success has inspired many new Skits makers go all the way for it.
For example Mr Funny(sabinus), Brain jotter and the likes have gone super viral because of skit making.
However, there is a big issue, that comes with this amazing opportunity.
In recent times, we now see a very massive increasing rate at which people are going to extreme lengths to create sensual content, which in turn often crosses moral, sometimes legal, and ethical boundaries.
These days people make content which are sexually appealing to people, without regarding the fact that these type of content when uploaded to the internet and various platforms, goes to the general public of all Ages.
Here in Nigeria there is no restrictions or regulations whatsoever.
This now raises a very important question: is the act of content monetization worth it? L

Why is Content Monetization so tempting
We can all see that Content monetization offers creators the opportunity to earn money from their content, be from advertisement (ads), sponsorships, or sometimes through affiliate marketing.
For many people, this is a dream come true, and it is a better way in which they can turn their passion into a career and get paid for sharing their ideas, thoughts, and creativity with the world.
The Darker Side of content Monetisation
This is a very Bad part of Monetization,
First of all, the pursuit of monetization has led some creators to prioritize profits over principles and moral, leading to a surge in low-quality, sensational, and often immoral content.
For example: content creator this days no longer have dignity and truth, the post a lot of post having fake news, some of those people will use clickbait as Thier headlines, they post nude thumbnail to attract people to click, they spread misinformation and damage people reputation.
Some people will even go as far as to share personal and intimate details about themselves or others, often for the sake of views and engagement from people.
The painful part is that people will always fall for it.
Everywhere is getting really toxic and Messy honestly.
No platform is safe: Facebook, thread, X app, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube and the worst of them all (Tiktok).
Even Celebrities make content to mislead people.

What is the way forward?

Firstly whenever you want to create content, Instead of prioritizing money you should focus on creating contents that are high-quality, engaging in a good way, and informative content that really adds some value to your audience.

Make sure you Build a loyal community, and the monetization will follow naturally.
Taking Sabinus and Brain jotter skit maker for example:
What i learnt about them is that they never use sexual appealing content, all the cast dress properly and modestly. Rarely will they endorse products that is Harmful or post misleading ones.

I believe if we can remove greed and focus on Creating value, things can change.
