In this task, I will be talking about my Hive keys and security, what I have learnt from the tutorial made by @bruno-kema and how to safeguard my Hive keys. @bruno-kema took his time to explain everything we needed to know about Hive keys and security and also how to recovery our account when it's being lost.
Hive keys are those keys given to you the very moment you sign up to hive Blockchain. There are five keys that will be given to you which are the Memo key, posting key, Active key, Owner key and Master key. I will be giving detailed explanations on how this keys are used.
The memo key is one of the least powerful keys and it is use to just send and view private messages. Considering the others keys, the memo key is not very important since it's use is for private messages.
This key is more important than the memo key and it is needed when you want to make a post or comment on the hive Blockchain, without this key, you won't be able to post nor comment on hive. It can also be used to make upvotes and also to reblog people's posts. Without this key, your account will be dormant which means you won't be able to do anything with your account.
This key is used to either power up or down which means if you want to power up your post to hundred percent, you active key will be needed to do that. It can also be used for HBD conversion.
This key is the most powerful key because it can be used to reset other keys and when your account is lost, the owner key can be used to recover it. The owner key can also be used to get the master key when it's being lost.
The master key is used to recover all your passwords in case you loss all your keys and you want to get them back. This key can't be found in the hive account, it can only be seen in the message Hive sent to you when you open an account.
Ways in which you can safeguard your keys
As we all have known the importance of our hive key, it is necessary we keep them safe and protect them from reaching the hands of other people. Depending on how you want to protect your account, especially those that truly value their account, there are many ways in which you can keep your account safe;
Save them in your Gmail: it is very important you save your keys in you Gmail account because when you misplace your phone, you can easily recover them once you get a new phone
you can also write them down somewhere like a diary or a private book that only you can have access to and make sure you keep the book in a safe place to avoid you misplacing the book.
if you have a PC, you can also safe them there.
How to check your recovery account and the process needed to recover an account
To recover your account, you need to go to your profile and by doing this you also need to be very careful as the account is very essential.
Go to your profile and click on the three dots where the arrow is pointing at
Once you click on it, this will appear, then you will have to click on keys and permission
You then have to click on recover account, after then you will have to scroll down and it will bring you here
