The Most Expensive Thing I Bought Last Year And Why It Was Worth It

in Hive Learners3 days ago

Yes, it was my new laptop. It was the most expensive gadget I spent on last year, and it was worth it. The truth was, I never knew I could get it at the time, because I was already looking forward to this year to start thinking of how to get it. However, my sister must have convinced me to go for it after explaining the details to me.

My old laptop was giving me a lot of problems. At first, it was the keyboard that had an issue in the year 2023/2024 when I was still serving my father's land. It took me a long time to get an external keyboard to keep serving me while I manage it until God answered me with a new one.

It was manageable using the external keyboard and later, the laptop started experiencing another issue. The screen would just start blinking like the eyes of a toy baby doll.

Times I would smash my hand on it harder just for it to stop its nonsense; sometimes, it would cooperate and stop, and other times, I would have to remove the battery as the power off button seemed to be malfunctioning.

Honestly, I was frustrated, but there was nothing I could do but keep carrying my cross until another way opens for me.

The laptop was a used laptop that was gotten by my sister in 2021/2022 when I was in the university, and it lasted me till 2023 when it began its nonsense. I couldn’t enjoy it anymore, and I was always wishing for a new laptop that wouldn’t give me any issues.

I moved to my new place last year and was still managing the laptop until one day, I couldn’t take it anymore. I was pushed to the wall by the frustration I got from it. I didn’t want to continue getting sad over something that would then ruin the day and mood for me. I packed it up and kept it in my bag, never to take it out again. I resorted to my phone but truthfully, I wished I had a laptop at that moment.

My sister called one day, and as we talked about some things, she mentioned my laptop, and that was when I explained the whole issue to her. Immediately, she contacted her friend in Lagos who was in the business of buying and selling laptops and other accessories.

I thought it was a joke when my sister said I would need a new one as soon as possible. I laughed because it wasn’t anywhere near my budget for the year. To say that I had spent a lot on a lot of things was part of the reason I didn’t see myself adding a laptop to my yearly goal. But she was serious. She made me see reason to get a new one to aid my job hunting and do other things.

In the end, she successfully persuaded me, and I agreed to get a new one. When asked by the guy the amount of a new laptop, he said #700,000 (around $480 or so). I screamed because it was a huge amount of money. Where do I get such an amount from?

But she was willing to loan me and pay me back later. I saw it as a big debt for me, but when she insisted that I get it, I didn’t have any choice but to succumb. Though we negotiated the price of the laptop and he agreed to sell it at #695,000, and that was how I got a new laptop, which was delivered to me a week later.

This was the most expensive thing I bought last year, and when it arrived, I couldn’t stop thanking my sister for making it happen faster than I expected, even though it’s a debt I would have to pay. At least I didn’t take the loan from outside, and it won’t be a disturbing one to pay back, which I will definitely do.

This wouldn’t be me trying not to pay with the excuse that she is my sister and wouldn’t do me anything even if I don’t pay. She did me a favour which I must not make her regret.

I never thought I could spend that huge amount of money, but yes, the laptop was worth it, and I am enjoying it now.

If not for my sister, who pushed me to it, I wouldn’t even think of getting it earlier, even this year, because I know how expensive getting a new laptop could be.

This laptop is very good, and it’s something I would want to spend on again, but I do not pray it gets spoiled now. Lol. But it’s really serving me well.

Congratulations on getting your new laptop. In my case, I need to replace my current one since it’s very slow when editing videos and the battery is already worn out. I even need to cut the videos into separate parts just for it to run properly, and it takes forever to charge for it to work.

The way your old laptop was continuously giving you problems, and then getting a new one with your sister's help, shows that sometimes our needs force us to make big decisions. This investment seems to have truly paid off for your work and productivity. You can learn a lot from this experience, which might even lead you to get something even more expensive in the future.

Congrats on the new laptop, princess. My laptop is giving me the same issue right now. It started blinking and the backlight went off while I was working. I already contacted my engineer so I can go and fix it, but luckily, it became stable again, the keyboard anther issue, the o and l letters give me ish most time, I know I need to get a new laptop but not in my priority for now.

Sometimes, it's annoying when things start getting bad, especially when we do not even plan for them. Laptop is very essential to do our job easily.
I think you will just keep managing that for now until you've gotten a way out to get a new one. God will provide.
