Your strategy is a very realistic one. Taking note of of income and budgeting accordingly is the best way to live, while ensuring ensuring we do not over spend.
Sometimes we over spend even when we do not intend to, sometimes due to unplanned circumstance. The best thing thing do in such situation is to bring ourselves back and re-organise our spending once more.
