A THING I WISH I COULD LEARN

I have always found it difficult to read, whether it's my school books, story books, the Bible, or billboards. Not that I don't know how to read, but I always feel it's strenuous for my brain, and I prefer watching and listening instead. So I like movies and audiobooks to novels. I will always listen attentively whenever I find myself watching a movie or listening to an audio material, but when I try reading, I get distracted very easily. I learn better by listening, and it's difficult for me to learn when I have to read.

I have sat down for hours to re-collect the title of the last book I read and what the book was all about, and until now, my brain is blank. This book I borrowed from one of my senior colleagues at the office, it is an inspirational and educational book. If I can recall correctly, the book teaches one how to behave better. I am sure if I can remember the title of the book, I will also remember what the book was all about and the lessons in the book.

I have tried on several occasions to be a lover of books, tried to read a couple of them as I was told that reading books helps one with self-development and the saying that says; Readers are leaders, and yet I still find myself in the same position.

I have this friend, during our secondary school days, I will see him reading novels all the time and I admired him for that, one day I tried to join him in reading this book that he was reading but before I could read half a page, he was already done with the whole page and had to open a new page, I was amazed at the speed of his reading, I wondered if he understood what he was reading or how was training himself to know how to read very fast.

Apart from the books in our school curriculum, it is hard to say that I have read any books during my secondary and tertiary education. One book I was forced to read then I can recall at the university was how Europe underdeveloped Africa, and if I were asked what this book was really about, I seem not to recollect the content of the book because I can’t remember if I read the book or not. And of which I owned the book in question.

The one book I know that I have read several times is Rich Dad Poor Dad. By Robert Kiyosaki. The book, In summary, was about how he grew up with a rich and a poor dad, the poor dad being his real dad and the rich dad being the father of his friend, how he learnt differently on how both lived there lives, having different understanding of money and wealth. where the poor dad was all about good education and job security, the rich dad was more about investing in assets and taking calculated risk. The poor spend on liabilities, while the rich acquire assets that will, in turn, generate money other than the liability that takes money from your pocket.

I have heard a lot about “The 48 Laws of Power”, and if I choose a book to read next, it will be 48 Laws of Power. This is because I have heard so many good reviews about the book, and it is spoken well of even in some movies I have watched. Thank you for reading.

The habit of reading consistently is not a one off thing, it's about doing it consistently. When you do it consistently, it becomes part of you
