Abortion is an act of terminating a pregnancy before its maturity date. This is usually because the pregnancy is unwanted, or the woman or parties involved are not ready for the responsibility. This act is very dangerous, and it has been frowned upon by many religions and even the governments of many countries. While some have made it legal, it is illegal to abort in many nations.
People have different reasons why they abort; some may be rape cases, while others may be because they feel the pregnancy is a mistake, and they might not be ready for it. As bad as abortion looks, it has its good side as well as its bad side.
Abortion is considered bad in the Christian religion and other religions because it is considered to fall under murder; it is believed that anyone who aborts a pregnancy is said to have committed murder. While these faiths believe it to be so, there are a lot of arguments that abortion is not killing a human, as it is still in the formation stage and cannot be referred to as human, and as such cannot be categorised as murder.
Another reason why some ladies may decide to abort a child is simply because of the circumstances of the pregnancy. Some ladies who may fall victim to rape may decide to terminate the pregnancy because of the emotional distress they may face, and may want to avoid such.
The choice of weather a couple can abort if they are not ready to have kids should be left open to them as an option, although other precautions like condoms, vasectomy, after pills, are better options, but when all those fails, it is advisable to leave abortion as an option to individuals who are not ready to have kids to be able to abort, when necessary, this will prevent and reduce situations where children are left to suffer and cater for themselves. A lot of people these days only know how to perform the act of getting pregnant but don’t understand the responsibility and duties that comes with it. If a girl is not forced to keep a pregnancy when she gets pregnant, it could help save the child from suffering in the future or even save her from ruining her life. A girl who takes, for instance, is too young to give birth but out of curiosity or other mistake ends up pregnant has a higher risk and mortality rate; as such, the option of abortion should be left open for situations like that.
The decision of getting an abortion should lay only on the woman, the man should only support and advise her on whatsoever decision she takes, because of the risk that is involved in both the pregnancy and the abortion itself, secondly, it’s the woman’s body and because of that, she should have the ultimate decision power to what she wants to do with her body, the man is just but a donor and if anything goes wrong, it is her life that is at stake. Whether I feel abortion is right or wrong doesn’t matter, because everyone has different reasons why they engage in abortion, to some it may be financial, while to others it might be because of shame and stigma, but one is not to judge the reasons for people’s decision that affects their personal life, because sometimes, if we are in the same situation as them, we will do just as they have done.
