The social media platform has been a great tool for social interactions and connections since the introduction of the likes of Facebook, the 2go platform, X formerly Twitter, and Instagram. Etc. After my secondary school education, where I attended a boarding house, most of us had no phones, and as such, we had no way of keeping tabs with each other except that we used our parents' phones to communicate. The coming of Facebook made things better, and with your personal account on Facebook, we could search for our friends and schoolmates online, send them a friend request and await their approval before we could interact with them.
Facebook was a blessing during that period as it helped me stay in touch and also to reconnect with old friends. During my time in the university was when the 2go app became more popular, we had our personal phone and so we could stay online for hours interacting with old and new friends, I can remember I made a lot of new friends with the help of this app and it also helped me connect with friends back home while I was away for school, and friends from my secondary school too. Although it took most of my quality time, I still had time with my books and school activities, which still reminded me of a fun memory and experience. The last amazing platform I had a good experience with was the platform Twitter, now known as X. It used to be difficult to interact on, and it was said that only the bright ones find it resourceful. I will never forget this girl I met on Twitter who happened to be very intelligent. She was the first friend I met online, and surprisingly, we connected well. It was a fun and informative platform at the same time; you find all the information there and wouldn’t miss out on anything, so long as you visit this platform.
If it were in my power to ban a social media for life and never to be used again, the social media I would choose would be “TikTok”. This may be so because I didn’t really have a liking for it, I couldn’t really see the economic importance of the platform, and I needed someone to explain to me what people were really doing on the platform and why it became so popular overnight. Maybe another reason maybe that my ex-girlfriend was always there posting videos I classify to be an advert or invitation for men to her DM. It doesn’t really relate to what I enjoy. The TikTok platform is addictive, and the content is not censored, which could be misleading in a lot of ways. The reasons for me wanting a ban on the TikTok platform is a sentimental reason, having to not like the platform for not a particular or sound reason, I just believe that the platform doesn’t provide connectivity but uses people to create fan base with contents that may or may not make sense and have people waste productive time, one that could be used to something better other than to watch some meaningless content.
Thank you for reading. My name is @rishagamo, and this is my response to the Hive Learners weekly Featured Content Week 189 Episode 01: “BANNED FOR LIFE”.
Lol, same here. The platform is good but I hate it because of the toxicity.
