Growing up, I had a simple plan for my life. At age 10, I was already in secondary school and by 16, I had graduated from secondary school and gained admission to college to study economics. My friend's father was then working with the Central Bank of Nigeria, and I wanted to be like him, so I decided to study Accounting before later changing my mind and choosing economics. I later got to admire our then Governor of the Central Bank, and I dreamt of becoming the Governor of the Central Bank someday.
It will seem as though I had my life all figured out, as I knew exactly what I wanted to become, and I was moving towards the direction of my goals and ambition in life, but as time went by, I got some revelation about life that no one had thought of or prepared me for.
It is easier to have your life figured out when you have someone to guide you with your career choice as well as life in general. I came to realise that going to college and earning a degree is one thing; knowing what to do with that knowledge and certificate is another, but I didn't realise this until later.
Society expects us to have our lives figured out very early in life, but then how many of us achieve that these days? Even those who we may think have their lives figured out don't, and some don't even know what they are doing. There is no figuring out of life; if we're really honest with ourselves, we just try our best and watch things work out.
Sometimes just when we think we have everything figured out, life changes, seasons pass, circumstances change, and we fall back to the beginning of everything over again. Trying to know what comes after.
It's like a popular saying here that says education is the key to success. But it sometimes feels as though the padlocks the secures success has been stolen, or the authorities and powers have simply changed the locks.
People have different times and seasons; we have seen people build business empires at early stages of their lives, and we have also seen people build at a later time in their lives. This doesn’t mean that one was early and the other was late.
No two individuals have the same destiny and, as such, don’t have the same time. Success and failure can come to any individual at any time.
Many people like me started with a clear ambition, inspired by their role models, but life has a way of reshaping plans, taking a hit and leaving them to figure out and learn as they go. Factors such as corruption, inequality, and changing economic conditions have become barriers to dreams and promises, all of which stem from a failed system rather than a loss in the value of education.
The system meant to reward individuals doesn’t always function as it should, which is what many people have come to live and experience.
The lesson is that life can not always be planned from the beginning to the end; we may have our dreams as well as our target goals, get an education and prepare for possibilities, but we must learn to take life as it comes.

It's annoying how expectations are mounted on us at a particular age range to have everything figured out. If life were some kind of movies that would have been okay but, reality is far from having thing go the way you plan.
You make all your plans then suddenly one thing or another comes up and disrupts it.. life is not easy at all.
The plan can change, but the decision is ours. The path we choose will determine our future and never blame others if the path we choose is not as smooth as our dreams.
One of the iconic statement I have ever come across is, life is what happens when we are busy making other plans. The older I get, the more I discover the true meaning of the statement. Our dreams and wishes will keep changing in ways we never thought possible.
