Social media has had such a great impact on our daily lives.
It has empowered us with opportunities to develop ourselves.
It has added massive advantages to our society at large, some of which I would be sharing shortly.
As asked by the @hive-learners community, I will be stating two advantages and 2 disadvantages of Social Media to society.
Social Media came to the forefront about ten to fifteen years ago and since then it has grown in popularity and there will be no stopping it. Over the years, more platforms have emerged and changes have been made to existing ones. Tell us two reasons you like social media. And also two reasons you feel it is bad.
Here are 2 advantages of Social Media.

🥇 It helps build connection: There is no doubt that this is one of the greatest benefits of social media.

It takes us away from our room to meet and communicate with someone thousands and thousands of kilometers away, without leaving our room. That's some crazy stuff.
It aids us in connection with people from various parts of the universe in seconds.
Some of us may have relatives that are very far away, maybe on a different continent entirely but that distance is bridged with the help of Social Media platforms.
You won't just hear their voices like a normal call, you can also see them, and catch up with them like you guys aren't distanced apart.

With Social Media, many have landed great jobs for themselves.

These days most organizations recruit from Social Media. Gone are the days when you have to take your credentials to a company before you get employed.
Nowadays, with a social media platform like LinkedIn, you can get a job offer just by having an optimized and updated profile.
On LinkedIn, you can also apply for jobs. The algorithm sources job opportunities that relate to your profile.
On Facebook, as a freelancer, you can get jobs through groups and even through the kind of content you put out.
Every individual who is interested in getting a job must have a LinkedIn account.
When you are opportune to meet people of caliber, one of the first things to request from them if you have to, is their LinkedIn handle.
That way, you can follow them and send them a connection request explaining how you met them so that they can easily accept your connection request.
Because on LinkedIn, the type of connections you have helps in your job search and opportunities. So build your network.

🥇 It kills physical communication skills: This is one problem in our society.
There are lots of people who always want to be behind the screen of their gadgets at all times. They don't ever want to be seen physically or communicate physically.
In the times of our parents when there weren't any social media. People enjoyed each other's company, you'd see circles of friends having fun together but now that's no longer the case.
So I consider this to be one of many disadvantages of social media.
🥈 It becomes addictive and leads to depression: The truth is anything can be addictive, right, social media is just one of those things.
Young people get so accustomed to social media that they become addicted to it. In the long run, they find it difficult to live a normal life outside the walls of social media platforms.
Due to the type of fake lives, most people portray on social media, some other ones get depressed and oppressed.
These are just a few out of the many advantages and disadvantages of social media.
