Week 50 Ep 2: Taking and letting go off opportunities

in Hive Learnerslast year

Frankly there were period in my life where I felt like shit, I really did feel like a nobody, until opportunities came and changed my life.

On the transparent side I really did use to feel that " opportunity come but once " once an opportunity is missed you most likely would never get it again. It all boils down to how well do you make use of your once In a life time opportunity.

But, I repeat, there are period in life where you say I am so glad I didn't go for that, thank God I didn't accept that even though it looks like an opportunity that might end up being costly if not taken advantage of in the long run

There were periods in my life where I felt like what if I have actually gone for that opportunity, would my life be the same? but at the same time thank God I was patient, I held on and found a better opportunity that in the long run far exceeds what the previous had to offer.

You see I am not an expert in the art of taking opportunity but, frankly I can tell you one or two things it is called knowing exactly what you want, ask yourself:

  • what are my goals, what are my aims

  • Where will this opportunity eventually lead me to

  • does this opportunity leads me to my goals and aims

  • What value does it add to me as a person identifying as this

  • How does taking this opportunity affect other things

  • In the grand scheme of things is it really worth it

  • What am I becoming with this opportunity, if I eventually take it, this is far more important than what am I getting from this, what you are becoming from an opportunity is far more important than what you think you are getting.

In taking an opportunity there is usually a temptation for immediate gratification. An opportunity will not be properly taken if the only focus is on the now, shifting focus from what do I gain now to how does this opportunity change my life in the next 5years, 10 years.

Really, some opportunities are not meant to be taken if you know exactly what you want and what you are aiming for, you start to see some so called costly opportunity as just a well decorated digression from what you aiming for, but again it all depend on you and what you want from life in general.

Let take a look at this scenario, based on a true life story:

A boy is granted admission into college or a tertiary institution for a course he doesn't not have a shred of passion for but he believe that he should at least accept the admission and continue with the flow. He realized in the long run that he really didn't have a passion for the course which showed in this grade, not because he wasn't intelligent , far from it, but because he lacked interest, he deviated from what he really wanted and decided to go with the flow. Long story short he dropped out and decided to really chase his dream and passion this time and not settle for less. He eventually took opportunities based on what he wanted and that my friend was the best decision he ever made till date.

Now what if he had just followed the flow, would he be happy, would he feel fulfilled in the long run.

In conclusion, some opportunities are never meant to be taken, they are just colorful distraction and you should be able to recognize if you really do know what you want, and when you do find those specific opportunities attached to what you really want, take it and don't ever miss. That kind of opportunity should never be lost.

Yes,some opportunities are not meant to be taken because they are not for us and we shouldn’t feel bad if we don’t take it because there are better opportunities that is for us that will come our way and when they go we should gladly take it.
