It's Not The App, It's What We've Become....

Hello and Hi,
It's been a while... Welcome to my blog

Social media platforms are very lovely inventions and I always give credit to the minds that thought of it and made it possible.. it makes communication easier and helps friends and families keep in touch easily and above all, in a less expensive way.
However, just like everything under the mother earth, they have their pros and their cons that sometimes you even wish they weren't invented in the first place.

If I had the power to erase completely from the face of the earth a social media platform, Errrmmmm, that will be quite a tough choice as I hold everything against almost all these social media applications or let's say it's not the social media platform itself but rather on the usage...
But if I am certainly going to make a decision, I think it will be FACEBOOK.

Facebook achieved in a very wonderful way the promises of bringing families, friends and relatives together in the early days of it's existence. It became a space where people can share and express themselves freely.
However, over the years, the dream gradually started to fade away and the Facebook platform became an abode of misinformation eroding the real human interaction that it formerly solved the problem.

The most annoying thing for me about Facebook is it's disregard for personal privacy. This is so bad that you just crossed someone along the way, randomly and you decide to check your Facebook that night and you're already seeing that person you know nothing about in the "People you may know" option, like how? It's both fascinating and annoying because what it simply means is that anyone, literally anyone can get to anybody at anytime they want.
Should I also comment on the porous nature of its search engine? With just a single Facebook username of a member of one family, you can easily get to the great-grandfather of that person because it keeps taking you to the friends of friends and friends of relatives, something I really find disgusting.
Then, sadly the Cambridge Analytica scandal where they suffered data breaches made me wonder if Facebook actually knows what it is like to value someone's privacy because they definitely picked profit over privacy protection in that event and so many other data breaches scandals.
Makes me wonder if I even know how much of my data I've fed to the platform especially in this era of identity theft.

Secondly, Facebook is a breeding ground for misinformation and division. Well, while this is not only peculiar to the platform but many other platforms out there, it's also a solid point for me to consider while picking the one to ban and this is because literally almost everyone has a Facebook account. You see, not everyone has a tiktok account and even X account, but I can put it out here that everyone who has these accounts has Facebook account.

It's always Facebook + another social media platform.

This singular factor makes it a platform where misinformation can spread like wildfire since it connects various continents together and coupled with it's ever rewarding algorithms favouring outrage and controversy because those drive engagement.

In summary, while social media has its perks, I think Facebook has outlived its purpose. So, if I had the power to erase it from the face of the earth, I will gladly do that and who knows, it might even be to our benefit as we would start living in the moment instead of living for the next post, likes or other reactions.

Thanks for reading and have a great day ahead 👍
