In my childhood days, I always used to wonder, why the President is called the first citizen of India. In fact there were very little talk about the President of our country and most of news were revolved around the Prime Minister. I hardly understand the role of the President in the framework of a nation. Later on I learned that, the President acts as a constitutional figurehead, ensuring the government functions within the legal framework. The President of India is the head of state, supreme commander of the armed forces, and first citizen, primarily responsible for preserving and protecting the Constitution. There are very few President that get into the spotlight. And the one whom I admire most is our beloved President APJ Abdul Kalam.
