If I had the power to ban one social media platform for life, honestly, I wouldn’t ban any, I know that this might sound somehow, but I just feel that every if this platform was created for a particular reason and that they do have their purpose, and even though some people might misuse them, others can actually find purpose and opportunity through them, so banning one of them will not really even solve anything, it will just make these people move to another one and continue from where they stopped.
You see, social media is one of those things that has both the good side and bad side, just depending on who is using it and how they are also using it, there are people who use these platforms to make real money, they use it to promote their business, also to learn new things, or even build solid relationships too.
Then, there are the others who just use it to cause drama or to now spread negativity, but I still believe the problem is not with the platform itself, the problem is just with the kind of people that are using it.
So if we decide to ban one app, then what happens to those who depends on it for their daily bread? Okay take for example, there are content creators, the influencers, and online vendors who feed their families through these same platforms, some people have built full careers out of TikTok, Instagram, and even Twitter X, okay now imagine banning one and shutting down someone’s source of livelihood, it doesn’t make sense.
I have also seen how social media connects people in ways real life can’t, there are friendships, relationships, and even marriages that started online, I know someone who met her business partner on Instagram and now they run a small fashion line together,see without social media, that would not have happened at all.
So now, I am not saying social media is perfect, because to be honest here, sometimes it can be very toxic,some people just wake up and choose violence online, others spread fake news or try to bring others down, but if we are being honest, banning an app will not stop that kind of behavior, they will just carry the same attitude to another platform, so it is not really about removing the space, it is about changing the mindset of the people using it.
I remember one time I took a break from social media because I was just tired of seeing negative posts everywhere, but after some time, I came back because I realized it is not the apps that are the problem , I just needed to filter what I consume, and Since then, I have been following pages and people that add value, things that make me smile or learn something new, the peace of mind I got from that was something else.
Social media is like a marketplace, you will find all kinds of people there, some are selling good things, some are selling bad things, and some are just there to gist, It is up to you to decide what part you want to stand in, that is why I believe banning any app is not the solution in any way, Education and self-control should come first.
At the end of the day, we all just need to understand that social media can either build or destroy, depending on how we use it, It has given people a voice, helped businesses grow, and made the world a little smaller by connecting people from different countries , so why would I want to ban that?
I think the best thing is for people to use these platforms with sense , post what makes sense, engage with others respectfully, and if you don’t like something, just scroll past, because let truth be told, no matter how you look at it, social media is here to stay, the world won’t be better without it, it will just be quieter, and maybe even a little boring.
