Hello Everyone and Welcome to My Blog, it's another edition of the Hive Learners Prompt , and today will be taking on the topic "JUST A CITIZEN ".
So on a serious note, I don’t think ordinary citizens should suffer for decisions made by their leaders, Like, let’s be real , most of us are just trying to survive, wake up every morning, hustle for daily bread, and live our small peaceful lives, we are not in those government offices where decisions are being made, we don’t sign any war documents, we don’t sit in those big leather chairs during meetings, yet somehow, when a country does something wrong, it is the normal people that receive the backlash first, how is that fair?
Sometimes I sit and think, If Nigeria wakes up tomorrow and annoys another country, is it me they will now drag on Twitter? because that is how the world is moving these days, a celebrity from some country will make music peacefully, next thing their government does something, and people start cancelling them online like it is their fault as if they were in the room when the president took the decision.
It is honestly funny and sad at the same time.
I feel like people forget that citizens don’t control their leaders, in fact, many citizens don’t even like their leaders, talk more of supporting their actions, So punishing them for something they didn’t plan or support doesn’t make sense to me at all, It is like blaming the passengers for where the bus driver decides to turn, they did not hold the steering, they didn’t press the brake, they didn’t choose the speed yet they are the ones that will receive insults from outsiders.
Sometimes, even celebrities get dragged for things that are completely out of their hands, someone will be acting movie, singing song, doing makeup tutorial, minding their business, and people will be like, "your country did this, why are you not speaking up?” meanwhile, if that person even speaks too much, their own government might come for them, So what exactly do people want them to do?
The truth is, when leaders make decisions, they do it from a place of power, not from public opinion, Citizens don’t sit in parliament, we don’t approve war, we don’t negotiate international relations, so why should we bear the consequences?
Let me even bring it home to Nigeria, Imagine someone in another country insulting Nigerians because of something the government did, Will that make sense? Many Nigerians complain about the government every day, Nigerians insult their own leaders every day, So imagine punishing the citizens for decisions they didn’t even support. It’s just not logical.
And you see this mentality of dragging citizens online… it doesn’t change anything, Leaders won’t see your tweet and say, “Ah, they are insulting my citizens abroad, let me stop the war.” They don’t care like that, Meanwhile the normal people, who have nothing to do with the issue, become targets.
For me, I believe people should direct their anger to the actual source, the government, the system, the policymakers, not random innocent people who are simply unfortunate to be from that country.
So no, I don’t think it’s fair at all, People should be responsible for their own actions, not the actions of others, especially when those others are leaders who don’t even consult the public before acting.
At the end of the day, the world needs to stop generalizing “Oh, your country did this, so all of you are evil.” Nah, life doesn’t work like that , Sometimes the citizens are the biggest victims of their own government’s decisions, They are already suffering enough, Adding more pressure from the international community doesn’t help anybody.
If we want peace, we need understanding not blame that’s misplaced.

I don't know why people blame the citizens for the mistakes of their leaders, instead of facing people who are at fault, they will be facing the innocent one insulting them.
They just ate doing rubbish by doing so. Sha God help us

The day our leaders will take responsibility for their actions instead of putting on the innocent citizens the better for us. Why should citizens suffer from leaders?

To me, I think they come after people who can’t defend themselves and this is oppression and injustice to me. It’s just unfair because our leaders make the mistake. May God fight for us.
Is it not person like me? Someone who can't defend herself? Like seriously where are we even going to in this country?
