Data privacy~ my take on it...

What's privacy? Does the government of our nation understand the word privacy? Or do they just care about their selfish interests? I think in the world today, nothing is private, information spreads faster than rumors now, as we all know we provide the government with all our data in processing certain things, there are some documents we'll fill and it requires every of our information but the question is "how secure is our data?"

Our data contains our personal information like our full names, date of birth, state of origin, and many more sometimes we include information like our means of identification, as we all know most apps will request all these from us and what we can't seem to detect is the safety of these apps, often time they go as far as requesting our bank verification number (BVN) and you know what happens when the wrong person gets this information "you don't wanna think about it right" I don't wanna think about it either.

There was the day a friend called me and was trying to introduce me to one federal government grant fund that people have been catching out from in her word, so she was preaching about it, and I, on the other hand, wanted to give it a try so I asked her to send me a link so I can register and be included in the catching out category. Before clicking on the link I'd already listed the things I was gonna do with my money, the fancy life I wanted to live, and how I wanted to shut down the state I was based in "Maybe I should've kept these thoughts to myself but the excitement in wanting to become the next baller in town wouldn't let me".

So as I was about to click on the link she called me and was crying, I now thought she had fallen and was trying to pour her heart out to me, and then she asked "Hope you haven't registered on the thing I sent to you?" Then I replied"No but I'm about to" Her next words "Tari please don't it's a scam" I was now confused and eager to know what had happened when she explained the stuff I became cold like water, she said the link asked for her (BVN) and the numbers in her debit card, she didn't even think twice before entering those details since it had the name "federal government", the moment she clicked on the submit button she was just busy receiving the debit alert.

The worst part was she couldn't even go to the bank cause it was late, at that point I froze, I don't know if I'm supposed to be happy for not falling victim to that but then if I smiled now my friend would feel like I'm making a mockery of her and I wouldn't want to hurt her in any way. An instance like this shows how far someone can go with your data if that someone doesn't have your interest at hand.

Most times we get too far on the internet enabling websites to access our data, and many of these convenient tools we rely on automatically share our data with others not always way that will be of interest. One good thing! I think that can come out of our data being out there is the fact that it can provide law agencies with faster and more valuable investigations, cause our data can be used to identify and stalk persons in cases of theft aside from that none.

In today's world, there are hackers everywhere looking for victims, If our data is made public then it will make it easier for hackers to have access to our information enabling them to perform their fraudulent acts. Having our data out there could cause us more harm than good especially when it falls into the wrong hands.

Government might seem to have our best interests at hand but then I've heard several cases of how government sites were hacked containing all our data, which is often used against us without our consent. I think the government having full access to our data could lead to a breach of privacy and there should be limits on the government's ability to access and use our data because there are risks involved in both.

People are scamming people real hard now and whatever concerns my bvn or nin I make sure I do away without it immediately.

You're right, BVN and NIN are the most valued information needed to hack one's account, with all the awareness being created people still fall victim to these things. It's quite unfortunate though...

I really don’t think there is nothing private about our data especially when we have to throw it in the hands of government when we are doing some certain registration.

The only think private are those things we do offline where the internet doesn’t exist. Our conversation and action.

Yeah nothing we do online is private, I still don't get why the government has to be so concerned about our lives, there are literally a lot of things to worry about, and not our data online.

Thanks for stopping by my post🥰

Well well well
There is a lot more to the topic than our eyes can see
And you’re welcome for your sharing with us

Now I'm gonna say thank you again since you've said I'm welcome..

Privacy is very important to me. I wouldn't want my data to be out there for anyone to access, because you can't really know the intentions of people.

More efforts need to be put into privacy of our data. Excellent article @young-tari.

Anyone that ain't related to you might not have good intentions toward you especially if you're doing perfectly well, like you've said we have to be very careful when it comes to putting our data out there.

Thank you dear for the nice compliment.

I believe no matter what we do, the government will still have access to our data. It's a must and we can't run away from it. The only thing that can be private is our personal lifestyle

Yeah, you're very correct government having our data it's something we can't run from but then I feel it should be limited to an extent.

That was so painful for your friend, clicking links without being sure of how legit they are is dangerous.

Yeah, that's why before I click on any link, I'm always very careful cause most of these links aren't legit, once you give them the most important information they need, they perform their activities.
