Ganda or Gandha or marigold is a fragrant flower that grows easily everywhere and is used in home decoration.

It is a member of the Composite family

Scientific name Tagetes erecta.

Marigold flowers can be seen in different varieties and colors. These flowers are usually bright yellow and dark brown. Although it is usually a winter flower, it is now cultivated in summer and rainy seasons. In addition to beautifying the garden, its extensive use in various festivals, pujas and home decor has given the flower a different dimension.

Ganda or Gandha is a fragrant common flower of the household garden in Bangladesh. Ganda has been cultivated commercially in Bangladesh since the 1990. Gadkhali, Jhikargachha, Jhenaidah, Chuadanga of Jessore, Sadar upazila of Gazipur district, and Patia of Chittagong district, Savar area of Dhaka district are cultivated at higher rates.

There are two main types of marigold found in Bangladesh

African marigold: This class of marigold is yellow in color and has a large tree shape. Notable varieties are: Inca, Guinea Gold, Yella Supreme, Goldsmith, Man in the Moon, etc.

French marigold: This class of marigold is orange yellow. That is why they are also called Raktaganda. Its trees are small in size. The petals have black spots at the base. Notable varieties are: Marietta, Harmony, Legion of Honor, etc.
