The origin of Halloween

Hello my dear readers.
A lot of you will celebrate Halloween today, but just a few know about the pagan origins of this tradition.

Halloween originates from a blend of the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian observance of All Hallows' Eve. Samhain marked the end of summer and the harvest, a time when Celts believed the veil between the living and the dead thinned. To protect themselves they donned on masks and costumes and gathered around huge fireplaces. The idea was to confuse bad spirits by looking like one of them.
The name "Halloween" itself is derived from "All Hallows' Eve," the evening before All Saints Day (or All Hallows Day) on November 1st, a Christian holy day.
So christianity took over this former pagan holiday to own it themselves.
In the 8th century pope Gregory III implemented this All Saints Day to celebrate all saints (like the name might have already told you) making it an important christian holiday.

What is your plan for today? Let us know in the comments ;D
