Hello dear Hivers, today I'm taking you on a tour of the signals that herald the arrival, little by little, of the winter season... It's a period I've never had too many problems with, just as the cold has never been a problem! And staying indoors if the weather's too bad isn't a problem either !
The first and most obvious is surely the beautiful tulip tree that grows beside the house and turns its beautiful leaves orange and yellow, similar to the one of Gingko.
In the rest of the garden, you don't feel it as strongly, but it comes gradually too...
Here we are a little higher up on the part where we want to make our future orchard. By the way, if you've already seen my previous article, you'll realize that it's not really in the future, but in the present! Our goal for this winter ? To plant around 20 to 25 trees !
Here's the forest just above where I went for a little foray...
But just before entering, I came across these fruits eaten to the core and it didn't take me long to identify the guilty party either :
It's this little hornet - I'm leaning towards the native European species - that so neatly devours apples left on the ground !
In the forest, I came across several species of mushroom, but this one brought back memories. I haven't had time to really identify it, but I'll tell you more if you're interested !
On the banks of a small stream, in a very damp spot, I came across these comfrey plants, which are excellent allies in the garden, as you can make very good purins from them to nourish the soil. So I thought I'd try and plant a few without taking everything from the area where they were growing !
That's about it for this quick tour, and we'll finish with another chestnut harvest, probably the last, but I hope to plant a chestnut tree soon, which of course won't bear fruit for a few years !

Hello chers Hivers, aujourd'hui, je vous emmène pour un tour de ces signes qui annoncent l'arrivée, petit à petit de la saison hivernale... C'est une période avec laquelle je n'ai jamais eu trop de problème comme le froid n'en a jamais été un ! Et puis rester à l'intérieur si le temps est trop mauvais n'en est pas un non plus !
Le premier et le plus évident, c'est sûrement ce beau tulipier de Virginie qui pousse à côté de la maison et qui laisse ses belles feuilles tourner à l'orange et à un jaune qui rappelle celui des Gingko.
Dans le reste du jardin, on ne ressent pas cela avec autant de force, mais cela vient petit à petit aussi...
Nous voilà un peu plus haut sur la partie où nous voulons faire notre futur verger. D'ailleurs si vous avez déjà vu mon article précédent, vous vous rendrez compte que cela n'est plus vraiment dans le futur, mais bien dans le présent ! Objectif de cet hiver ? Planter environ 20 à 25 arbres !
Voilà la forêt juste au dessus et dans laquelle je suis allé faire une petite incursion...
Mais juste avant d'y pénétrer, je suis tombé sur ces fruits mangés jusqu'au trognon et je n'ai pas mis long temps non plus avant d'identifier le coupable :
C'est ce petit frelon, je penche pour l'espèce autochtone européenne, qui dévore de façon si nette les pommes laissées au sol !
Dans la forêt, j'ai croisé plusieurs espèces de champignons, mais celle-ci m'a rappelé des souvenirs. Je n'ai pas eu le temps de vraiment l'identifier, et je vous en dirais plus si cela vous intéresse !
Au bord d'un petit ruisseau, dans un coin très humide donc, je suis tombé sur ces consoudes qui sont d'excellentes alliées du jardin puisqu'on peut en faire de très bons purins pour nourrir le sol. Je me suis donc dit que j'allais sûrement essayer d'en planter quelques unes sans pour autant tout prendre dans le coin où elles poussaient !
Voilà, c'est à peu près tout pour ce rapide tour, et nous terminerons par une nouvelle récolte de châtaignes, c'est probablement la dernière, mais j'espère bientôt planter un châtaignier, qui lui bien-sûr, ne donnera pas avant quelques années !

Encore un très bel article et je t'en remercie!
Le frelon que tu mentionnes est un frelon asiatique: une vraie plaie car pas de prédateur hormis l'homme et quelques mésanges surtout en fin de saison d'ailleurs.
Cette espèce fait un carton dans mes ruches actuellement.
Le frelon européen est jaune vif et noir comme une guêpe mais de dimension bien plus grande : 3,5 à 4,5 cm environ. Il est plus discret que son congénère asiatique.

Concernant les ruches, les attaques sont quotidienne mais nous sommes en fin de saison : les abeilles vont périr naturellement pour la plupart et les restantes vont se placer en grappe à l'intérieur de la ruche pour protéger le couvain et la reine du froid.
Oui, c'est le cycle naturel !
Je serai curieux de savoir comment tu luttes contre les différents parasites et prédateurs... mais peut-être as-tu déjà fait un article à ce propos que je n'aurais pas vu ?

I used to love winter but with some health issues and getting older winter sure does slow me down these days, if it gets down to close to freezing point or lower, I just cannot get out for my photo walks as I know if I do I will get sick

But it could almost make sense, as I'm going to pick up that famous chestnut tree tomorrow ! We'll put it in the ground in the next few days, and yes, after that we'll have quite a few years to wait, but I think the one I find will already be quite old too !
