From North to South, a Vintage Wednesday Walk through Paris [EN - FR]

in Wednesday Walk2 years ago (edited)

Hello dear Hivers !

Finally, it's been a long time since we went for a daytime walk with my partner. Usually she is the one who works a lot and I am the one who is at home, but this time both of us were on the same tempo !

So we took the opportunity to do one of our favorite things to do, whether in town or elsewhere : WALKING !

Often when we leave friends at the end of the evening, everyone books an Uber or heads to the nearest subway station. Generally, whether we are 700 meters or 7km away, for us it doesn't make much difference and we walk home :)

Today we walked from the North to the South of the city, from Montmartre to the boulevard Raspail above the Jardins du Luxembourg, all following a vertical and quite straight trajectory. I don't know the whole city, but I clearly explored 60 to 70% of the city and most of the time, I didn't need a GPS, it's still more pleasant to walk without thinking too much or looking at the screen !

I have to say that at the beginning, the weather was not particularly engaging... It was almost threatening to rain but I only noticed it when I took this view down the hill of Montmartre...

IMG_2042.JPG

Quickly one continues by the street Rochechouart and that brings us to this very pretty bridge above the square Montholon. The structure all in straight lines lends itself well to images in which one brings out the perspectives...

You can see on the third image that the weather was starting to get better, which allowed us to continue with a nice light !

Below is a monument to the Parisian worker in Montholon Square, just below the bridge shown above.

We continue our walk in the Trévise street towards a corner which I like very much (the one in cover of the article) : the Cité Trévise ! A few years ago a building had undergone a gas explosion and all the district had been closed for works. I love this place since my first years in the capital when I lived for a few months in the 9th district.

It's a peaceful place between the rue Lafayette and the Grands Boulevards, very appreciable and as one finds in small quantity in Paris... It's not the only one of course but compared to other European capitals, we lack a little bit of small (or big) green niches !

IMG_1980.JPG

IMG_1981.JPG

Just down the street from where we arrived, we come across this porch that I had never noticed, all loaded with hotel signs, really old school !

IMG_1992.jpg

Now we've come a long way, because we're on the Île de la Cité, and this gleaming portal in a real rococo style is the one of the courthouse... I went to visit it - not as a "client", I assure you ^^ - but to see a court hearing. Yes, I had a lot of time at that time !

IMG_1994.JPG

A well-deserved stop in a café on Rive Gauche. I take a decaffeinated coffee as it is already late and my companion chooses a grog well loaded in rum, she does not drink alcohol, but it is all the same excellent for these winter days which are coming !

IMG_1995.JPG

Detail of a door knocker not far from there... I have a whole collection of them and I'll gladly do an article about it if I manage to gather them all soon.

IMG_1999.jpg

Then, as the night falls little by little, we arrive at our " goal ", the restaurant district not far from Montparnasse... I put goal in quotation marks because you will have understood that we walk essentially for the pleasure but we had nevertheless an appointment for dinner...

I rather like this neon atmosphere, very old school...

IMG_2016.JPG

IMG_2012.JPG

The restaurant we go to is called "le Relai de l'Entrecôte" and I can't recommend it enough ! I really like their concept. The menu is unique for the starter and the main course. A green salad, entrecôte and fries. So everything is good as they only serve that. After, for the desserts, there is a lot of choice !

IMG_2010.JPG

IMG_2008.JPG

Everything is like the neighborhood, in this old-fashioned and chic atmosphere at the same time... Small detail below of the order noted on the tablecloth.

IMG_2007.JPG

In the return we walk until St Michel for tot de même take the subway, we already made our 20.000 steps, it is well enough for one day ^^ Last sight of the church St Sulpice in a beautiful blue sky night, without clouds...

IMG_2017.JPG

I hope you enjoyed this little tour along our walk and I thank you for your time :)

If you have any questions, don't hesitate, I will be happy to answer them. I wish you an excellent day, take care of you !

See you soon,

@anttn

@anttn

Yeah, it was a great one !! I usually do a lot alone, but the two of us... it's been from a long time :)

I'm happy you enjoyed it too :D
Thanks you for that really motivating support ✌️

Someday I will travel to Paris, and visit and eat everywhere. What beautiful scenery, the architecture is like royalty.
It's good that you were able to spend time out and about, a walk and a good conversation always helps to improve the mood.

I wish you’ll have this opportunity soon 🤞🏼it’s indeed a very beautiful place !!
Have a sweet weekend 🍀

Love the structures and the food, I am pretty sure you both had a great walk

It was a nice one indeed, even more so as it has been a long time :-)

Beautiful walk @anttn 😊👋🏻 You covered quite a bit 😎
It is easy to walk around Paris and you don’t always need a gps, just walk and see where you end up.
We do that too to explore a new area.
The lights and neons at nighttime are wonderful to see.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful time with us.
Have a lovely Wednesday 👋🏻🐝

Greetings @littlebee4 :D
Yes, it really is an old enough city to wander around in, yet human-sized. And yes ! You are discovering your region now too ? I can't remember if you told me, but how far did you move when you moved ?

I'm glad you enjoyed the visit... until the next one you make here 😉

Good evening and in advance, good Friday

Greeting @anttn 👋🏻😊
Sorry for the late reply, we flew yesterday on holidays and were traveling from 5 o’clock in the morning until 3 o’clock in the night 😉✈️😎

We moved a 45 minutes drive away. When we moved, but are familiar with that area.
Love exploring and just seeing where we end up. We will drive today 2,5 hours further to reach the main destination of our 2 weeks holiday. It’s 6:45h in the morning now. Of course we woke up toooo early hahaha 🤣 after 10 nights we drive to Boston for 4 nights and fly back…
Exciting times. Let’s explore New England’s forests and mountain villages 🤩🍁🍁🍁 hope we see fall colours 🤞🏻

We will for sure come back one day to Paris… thank you.
Have an amazing weekend 👋🏻💃🏻☀️

France gives such a classy vibe! Even though you don't see the famous Eiffel Tower or other popular spots. I like that!

haha, for sure ! but in fact when you live here, you don’t go to the Eiffel Tower every weekend :D I’ve been maybe two or three times in more than a decade ..
I’m glad you appreciated the visit 🌟

So beautiful experience and urban landscapes, I really enjoyed your post. Thank you for that.

You too!!

I have always loved the scenery of Paris, the facade of the buildings are a poem. A good place for romance with your partner.

great you and your partner were in tempo and able to enjoy this walk together so much history along the way I do love the cobblestone streets

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

Yes, as time goes by and the amount of work increases, it has become rarer and therefore more special than it used to be... but when the opportunity arises, we try not to miss it!

Thanks for visiting, I hope you'll have a nice Friday 🤞 :)

Thanks and you to have a good day and weekend
