Running After Dandelion Fluff

in Wednesday Walk10 days ago

From a certain age, you have to resort to medication to continue. More or less, depending on your luck. Medicines that do good and fix something, but unfortunately can also damage something else.

My wife and I, past 70, have to take a lot of medication. We have no choice if we still have this desire to see what else can happen in this world. We are also aware that these drugs, especially if they are wrongly chosen, can help in certain diseases but also strike elsewhere.

Fortunately, other "medicines" do nothing but good, without any harmful side effects.

Walking is such a medicine. I call walking medicine because it is also recommended by doctors.

Our most recent walk benefited from two more than beneficial medicines. Two wonderful medicines! One for the body, which is the walk, and one for the heart and rejuvenation, which is our four-and-a-half-year-old granddaughter Ilinca.

Running after dandelion fluff in the garden of Mogosoaia Palace near Bucharest.

Our afternoons are dedicated to Ilinca. We pick her up from kindergarten and most of the time we go to the park, to the playground. Sometimes we break this repetitive monotony and choose another place to play and walk. So we ended up in Mogosoaia where there is a 17th-century palace and a grand garden.

A corner of the garden is dedicated to fun, both for children and adults who still believe in stories. We came with Ilinca for the playground... What do children do all the time? Playing!

IMG_20240412_200937.jpg

The playground is generous in all kinds of facilities for children and Ilinca was very interested to discover their functions.

IMG_20240412_193151.jpg

This was a new place for Ilinca and curiosity made her give up the play area pretty quickly, sooner than we had hoped. Very close by was a place that looked like illustrations from a storybook.

What sounds like a story is another story, for grown-ups.

IMG_20240412_190234.jpg

These fairy-tale buildings hide restaurants with terraces and barbecues. They are famous for their good food and equally good beer.

IMG_20240412_190212.jpg

Fortunately, at this time of spring, restaurants are only open on weekends. For our walk, it was beneficial because it wasn't crowded.

IMG_20240412_190221.jpg

Ilinca quickly understood that there was nothing that could be bought, one of her passions, and so she was able to enjoy nature.

IMG_20240412_190335.jpg

IMG_20240412_190346.jpg

Ilinca has discovered something that is an attraction for all children, but also for adults who have remained a little child, like my wife. Dandelion which is at the point where it spreads its seeds...

From tiny dandelions to huge trees. The old oak tree nearby attracted both the interest and curiosity of the child.

IMG_20240412_190445.jpg

Grandma explained to Ilinca why this tree was so big and how old it was, but the little girl was more impressed by the ants running on the trunk of the oak.

IMG_20240412_190503.jpg

Then the miracle happened!
We city dwellers have a nostalgia. I don't know if it's nostalgia for all of us and so I rephrase. I have a nostalgia for the wide and generous spaces that only exist outside cities. Such a space appeared before my eyes and Ilinca was immediately drawn to it.

IMG_20240412_190533.jpg

The interest in games, installations, and shopping suddenly disappeared. The beauty of nature has won our granddaughter over.

IMG_20240412_190554.jpg

Only a little girl can manifest herself in this way.

A child's joy is one of the most beautiful things on earth!

I don't think anyone could resist such beauty offered by small flowers. Modest flowers, modest dandelions, so generous.

It was an afternoon to evening walk that was now coming to an end but I hardly managed to convince Ilinca that we had to leave that place that resembled a story.
The last owner of this palace and everything around it was a real princess. Her name is Martha Bibescu.

This estate is located in a village close to Bucharest, called Mogosoaia. We are lucky enough to live close by, just 15 minutes drive.

IMG_20240412_192007.jpg

As I expected, Ilinca didn't want to leave and stopped at every place she could play.

IMG_20240412_192508.jpg

Eventually, we almost made it to the garden exit but that made us walk past the playground which meant another temptation for the child that we couldn't get past.

IMG_20240412_192715.jpg

So another long session of games followed...

IMG_20240412_184835.jpg

What at first seemed like a hard thing, because we were tired and wanted to get home as soon as possible, turned into something magical for us too. Evening came...

IMG_20240412_194151.jpg

I have to go back to what I said at the beginning. We crave large, unobstructed spaces like we can't see in the city. Looking at this view across the lake we still didn't know what a pleasant surprise we would have.

IMG_20240412_194347.jpg

A sunset!

IMG_20240412_194435.jpg

IMG_20240412_194444.jpg

You can see that we were not the only ones to appreciate this unexpected and even more valuable gift.

IMG_20240412_194623.jpg

It was a wonderful walk, enlivened by our granddaughter's joy and energy. We reluctantly left the place with the promise that we would return soon.

Ilinca looks longingly at the field of dandelions and has no idea that on the next walk, these little white spheres of flying seeds will not be here.

Mogosoaia Palace and its gardens are one of the most beautiful sights near Bucharest. It is a place where visitors to Bucharest can spend a pleasant day walking through the vast grounds with lakes, forests, and meadows. Mogosoaia Palace, built in 1700, was the residence of Prince Constantin Brancoveanu and is now a museum, so it can be visited.

There are also restaurants and terraces where you can taste traditional Romanian dishes and international cuisine.

I try in all the blogs about this place to invite people to have a nice time here.

Make a point of looking around and up and see what you can find to get shots of that otherwise you may miss.

This is one of the recommendations made by @tattoodjay for those who prefer walking and are used to sharing impressions and photos in his community, Wednesday Walk, every Wednesday, like this one today.

I fully agree with you walking is good for us and a form of medicine, as for prescribed meds, MY wife is in her 70s now and has so many pills to take each day, i have 5 years to go before 70 and at this stage not too many pills i think 4 a day, but i suspect after my surgery that number will increase

Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk

Have a great day

Always a pleasure, the Wednesday walk is one of my favorites.
Unfortunately, as the years go by I take more and more pills. I think it helps though.

yeah I think so as well, have a great day

I try to use less drug in my life and I hope I can maintain it when I get older.

I hope you make it. I've known many people who didn't take medication.

The most beautiful thing about the walk, your granddaughter, who together with the beauty of the landscape makes a perfect walk. congratulations, she is very beautiful!😃
