Beautiful landscapes. It amazes me that this is the beginning of the Mississippi River and that they have so many stories or urban legends behind it. The one about the girl who lost her life and became a mermaid caught my attention. Maybe reality overcomes fiction and I find that the river and the place itself have much more to tell. Thank you! Yeah, the further south you go, the river gets more commercial and urban...this place is very special as most of it has been engineered to protect native wildlife.
the entire river is filled with history, but I'm partial to this bit as I've live here for a bit :)
