Greetings everyone, I would like to introduce you to the community of Ricabal in Guanabacoa, Cuba. My cousin and I really enjoy visiting Ricabal, as it is a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle of the city, we love to spend time in the local nursery and we always receive a warm welcome from the friends we have made there.
Ricabal is one of the most peaceful places in Guanabacoa. Most of its inhabitants come from the east of the country and in the past they built their houses clandestinely, which have been legalized. The community is very welcoming and pleasant, typical of Cubans, although there are people like Carlos, the owner of the nursery, who prefer to enjoy their privacy.
Saludos a todos, les quiero presentar la comunidad de Ricabal en Guanabacoa, Cuba. Mi prima y yo disfrutamos mucho visitando Ricabal, ya que es un lugar tranquilo lejos del ajetreo de la ciudad, nos encanta pasar el tiempo en el vivero del lugar y siempre recibimos una cálida bienvenida de los amigos que hemos hecho allí.
Ricabal es uno de los lugares más apacibles de Guanabacoa. La mayoría de sus habitantes provienen del oriente del país y en el pasado construyeron sus casas de forma clandestina, las cuales han sido legalizadas. La comunidad es muy acogedora y agradable, típico de los cubanos, aunque hay personas como Carlos, el dueño del vivero, que prefieren disfrutar de su privacidad.
The Verbena de Ricabal is an annual celebration that commemorates the arrival of the first inhabitants to the community. During this festivity there are parades, music, dances, typical food and recreational activities to unite the community and strengthen their ties. Last month they celebrated their 40th anniversary with activities for children and youth, where Carlos generously bought candy for all the children of Ricabal.
My cousin and I have become friends with Pupy and Carlos, two residents of the community. Pupy is the brother-in-law of the owner of a banana and tomato farm, while Carlos, in addition to being president of the community and owner of the nursery, owns a farm with mango, guava and bananas. He often shares his harvest with workers and neighbors. We receive his generosity from time to time, when he has something to give us.
La Verbena de Ricabal es una celebración anual que conmemora la llegada de los primeros habitantes a la comunidad. Durante esta festividad se realizan desfiles, música, bailes, comidas típicas y actividades recreativas para unir a la comunidad y fortalecer sus lazos. El mes pasado celebraron su 40 aniversario con actividades para niños y jóvenes, donde Carlos generosamente compró golosinas para todos los niños de Ricabal.
Mi prima y yo hemos entablado amistad con Pupy y Carlos, dos residentes de la comunidad. Pupy es el cuñado de la dueña de una finca de plátanos y tomates, mientras que Carlos, además de ser presidente de la comunidad y dueño del vivero, es propietario de una finca con mango, guayaba y plátanos. A menudo comparte su cosecha con trabajadores y vecinos. Nosotras recibimos su generosidad de vez en cuando, cuando tiene para darnos.
We visit Ricabal almost every week. We meet up with Carlos and Pupy, take freshly cut bananas home and sometimes chat with Puppy's friends and family. If we don't visit for a long time, we are always happy to see each other again, so we come back again and again.
Visitamos Ricabal casi todas las semanas. Nos reunimos con Carlos y Pupy, nos llevamos plátanos recién cortados de la mata a casa y a veces charlamos con las amistades y familiares de Puppy. Si pasamos mucho tiempo sin visitar, siempre nos reciben con alegría al vernos nuevamente, por lo que regresamos una y otra vez.
