TORAJA or Tana Toraja is one of the regencies in the province of South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The capital city of this regency is in the Makale sub-district.
TONGKONAN
Tongkonan is the traditional house of the Toraja people, which is the residence, customary power, and development of the social and cultural life of the Toraja people. And imagine that this traditional house was built with a construction made of wood without using any metal elements such as nails. Wow! 😲🤯
Tongkonan comes from the Toraja language. The word "Tongkon" means sitting. It is said to be a seat because it used to be a gathering place for Toraja nobles who sat in tongkonans to discuss. Whereas in a broad sense Tongkon is a place to hear orders and advice in solving a problem. Because in the past, the traditional house of the Toraja tribe was used as the center of customary government and the unity of the Toraja tribe.
All Tongkonan houses standing in a row will point north. The direction of the tongkonan facing north and the tip of the pointed roof symbolizing their ancestors who came from the north. According to belief, north is considered a sacred direction and the abode of "Puang Matua" (the creator of the universe). The roof made a hole for the entrance and the blessing of "Puang Matua".
The uniqueness that can be seen when you see the Tongkonan traditional house is the curved roof that resembles a boat. The uniqueness of the roof is inseparable from philosophy and history. The roof reminds that the ancestors of the Toraja people used to cross the island of Sulawesi by boat. Another uniqueness is that the Tongkonan house also has a characteristic that it is filled with buffalo heads, sometimes chicken heads. The Toraja people have a belief in buffalo as an honorable animal. Not only that, buffalo horns also show the social strata of society. So, don't be surprised if the taller and more buffalo horns are on display, the higher the social strata of the owner of the house.
Maybe at that time the buffalo was like a Ferrari car today. Chicken head? Hmmm.. yeah.. maybe like Harley Davidson. Lol 😁🤣

TORAJA o Tana Toraja es una de las regencias de la provincia de South Sulawesi, Indonesia. La ciudad capital de esta regencia se encuentra en el subdistrito de Makale.
TONGKONÁN
Tongkonan es la casa tradicional del pueblo Toraja, que es la residencia, el poder consuetudinario y el desarrollo de la vida social y cultural del pueblo Toraja. E imagina que esta casa tradicional fue construida con una construcción de madera sin usar elementos metálicos como clavos. ¡Guau! 😲🤯
Tongkonan proviene del idioma toraja. La palabra "Tongkon" significa sentarse. Se dice que es un asiento porque solía ser un lugar de reunión para los nobles Toraja que se sentaban en tongkonans para discutir. Considerando que, en un sentido amplio, Tongkon es un lugar para escuchar órdenes y consejos para resolver un problema. Porque En el pasado, la casa tradicional de la tribu Toraja se usaba como el centro del gobierno consuetudinario y la unidad de la tribu Toraja.
Todas las casas de Tongkonan que estén en fila apuntarán al norte. La dirección del tongkonan hacia el norte y la punta del techo puntiagudo que simboliza a sus antepasados que vinieron del norte. Según la creencia, el norte se considera una dirección sagrada y la morada de "Puang Matua" (el creador del universo). El techo hizo un hueco para la entrada y la bendición de "Puang Matua".
La singularidad que se puede ver cuando ves la casa tradicional de Tongkonan es el techo curvo que se asemeja a un barco. La singularidad del techo es inseparable de la filosofía y la historia. El techo recuerda que los antepasados del pueblo toraja cruzaban la isla de Sulawesi en barco. Otra singularidad es que la casa de Tongkonan también tiene la característica de que está llena de cabezas de búfalo, a veces cabezas de pollo. El pueblo toraja cree en el búfalo como un animal honorable. No solo eso, los cuernos de búfalo también muestran los estratos sociales de la sociedad. Por lo tanto, no se sorprenda si cuanto más altos y más cuernos de búfalo se exhiben, más alto es el estrato social del dueño de la casa.
