Hello dear friends,
Today I am taking you for a walk in Zemun. Zemun is a city that belongs to Belgrade. It is located in the part of Vojvodina called Srem and is near the confluence of the Sava and the Danube. The Danube flows through Zemun and has the most beautiful quay.
Zemun can be reached from Belgrade via the municipality of Novi Beograd.
There are a large number of primary schools in Zemun, as well as the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Belgrade.
In Zemun, on the hill called Gardoš, which is next to the quay, the most visited place, there is the Gardoš tower.

Once upon a time, Gardoš was a fortress, hence the existence of the tower.
Over the centuries, Zemun, like most cities in Serbia, changed its name, but it is recorded in historical records that there were many dugouts on the territory of Zemun, where the inhabitants hid, during wars, hence the name Zemun.
Due to the Danube, Zemun was a large port. This is no longer the case, and instead of the pier there is a long quay, which is constantly full of visitors.

A large number of streets are still made of stone and cobblestones, so when you enter Zemun, you have the impression that you are living in the last century, or that you are entering a large village.
Next to the promenade, there are many restaurants, cafes, and in the evenings, the sounds of music resound from each restaurant.
Simply, the city has its own charm and everyone likes to go to Zemun when they are in Belgrade. A special attraction in Zemun are the swans, of which there are very, very many. All passers-by, walkers, guests love to feed them.
From the quay you can also see the Great War Island. it is said that it is the last oasis of peace, forest, beauty, which is inhabited by rare species of fairy tales. The island can be reached by boat, and these are organized tourist routes.

Zemun did not always belong to Belgrade. Over the centuries, it was conquered by the Celts, Illyrians, Romans, Turks, and Austro-Hungarians. Only after the First World War, Zemun became part of Belgrade.
Due to the influence of the Austrian government, at the end of the 18th century, Zemun was a much more developed city than Belgrade. It had its own railway, glass-cutting shops, pharmacies, and social life was on a higher level.
As for me, I'm always happy to go to Zemun and spend most of my time on the quay and promenade where many artisans are there with their products. There are always street musicians, ice cream on tap, and the Stara kapetanija restaurant is our favorite place, with very tasty food.

Well, that was a small story and a walk through Zemun.
As for all the other places I wrote about, I invite you with an open heart to come to Serbia, Belgrade, Zemun.
I will be happy to be your guide.
Thanks for reading my posts, and I hope to at least meet someone in person.
