Wednesday Walk, Touristic Moscow by day

in Wednesday Walk3 years ago

So after my solo evening stroll, the following day I finally met up with my bed mates of the next 2 weeks, I say bed mates, as there was some sleeping to be done on the TSB express. But for now it’s time for “walkies”.

Despite my most earnest pleas to the guide to take us off piste and do some interesting stuff, I guess he had to stick to the script and do the touristic places. Still very enjoyable to say the least.

The Saviour Tower and St Basil’s Cathedral, Red Square and the towers of the Resurrection Gate, a passageway into the square, The Borovitskaya Tower,

The tomb of the hero, the unknown warrior, reinterred from his original grave in 1966.

It is a given fact that wars are won by killing more of the enemy, than they kill of you; so forget the yanks and Hollywood, forget the way history is interpreted in Britain. It was the might of the Soviet army that defeated Nazi Germany, accounting for 76% of all military deaths, bringing Herr Hitler to defeat on the Eastern Front

A lot of UNESCO heritage bits and bobs, as one would expect

  • The Cathedral of the Archangel
  • The Cathedral of the Assumption
  • Ivan the Terrible Tower
  • Tsar bell, the biggest bell in the world, cracked in a fire shortly after being cast it has never been rung.
  • The tsar cannon, 16thc never fired in anger, the cannonballs weigh in excess of 1 ton.

Moscow skyline from up high from the top of the Cathedral of Christ The Saviour, nearly didn’t get these snaps, what a palava, the jobsworths manning security on the entrance wouldn’t let me in because I had shorts on!

What would Jesus do?

I Had to borrow a big scarf type things one of the group and wrap it round myself FFS!

The views were magnificent, some awesome Stalinist buildings and the mighty Moskva River fire fronting the Kremlin complex.

Beautiful blue sky! Love the old architecture. Such a big city to walk around; I would need a bicycle at least! LoL

Thank you ,yes lots to see

I always wanted to see Moscow and St. Petersburg one day. But the pandemic had changed traveling culture forever!

Cheers.
