My wife and I went for one of our fav walks recently along the River Almond to see the autumn colours.
The walk is a short drive from our house on the edge of the city (Edinburgh).
We started at the mouth of the river where it empties into the sea. It was a nice but coldish morning.
Heading up river we passed the yacht club where all the boats have now been pulled out of the water for the winter. While there a guy I work with came out of the club building. It turns out he is a yachtie and a member of that club !
Heading further on up river towards the weir we were starting to get treated to some pretty lovely colours in the trees.
We also passed this lovely batch of fungi on the side of an old chopped tree trunk, I was loving the green on the white.
I always like to stop at the weir and watch the water fall. It was lovely and clear so you can see the cope stones at the top of the weir. This was built to help power an old mill that used to be here.
Thats the remnants of the mill which closed quite a long time ago now (well over one hundred years ago).
The river was quite nice and still, and we were getting treated to lovely views all the way up.
At this point in the walk you have to climb up over a set of steps to get passed a sheer cliff in the river gorge. It always provides nice views from above.
Exposed rock can be seen all along the walk where the river has cut through the gorge over many years. The colours were quite lovely on the rocks here too.
Finally we got up to the Crammond Brig (bridge) which is our usual turning point. Its around 1.5 miles up river from where we started.
Coming back down we again stopped at the weir and caught the colours from the trees reflecting in the water.
We both love this time of year, and seeing all the lovely autumn colours. It was also great to get out for some nice exercise on a saturday morning !

What a beautiful walk. With the pictures one can easily put himself into the journey
Everything is of almond colour even the road , I think those are leaves of trees on the road.
If I would be there then I will stop around Remnants of Mill and will spend hours there because these kind of historical things pull my heart strongly.
