We've been on vacation in South West Wales this week, and had a lovely walk along the Pembroke Coastal path above Porthgain.
It was a stunning day, although rather windy. The views along the coast and out to sea were stunning.
Pembrokeshire is famous for its coastline, and we have not been disappointed at all. Its quite a rocky coastline, and the views all along have been great, with fantastic sea inlets, caves, sea stacks and the like.
The walk above Porthgain was quite interesting as it took us to an old brickworks which was established around 1850.
The brickworks is right on the clifftop overlooking the sea, and you can see the old quarry where I guess they got their material for making the bricks.
It was nice to explore the old buildings and they made for some nice photos - the blue skies were also helping !
The bricks would have been shipped out by sea as the road network here even today is not great, never mind 170 years ago ! Above you can see one of the markers on the cliff top that helped seafarers find the port.
And above is the marker for the other side of the inlet. One is square shaped while the other is round, and painted bright white.
We also passed this intriguing slate stack feature along the way - with a hole through - no idea what this might have been for.
The brickworks are long since closed now. Above you can see grey tanking on one part of the ruins, which was probably a water tank. Noting it is quite remote where this is, so they would have had to have been self contained, as its about a mile away from the port or anything else.
The seaviews were stunning throughout the walk. This dug out V-shape was just below the brickworks and led to a drop into the sea. Its a bit weird, but I wonder if they used it for dumping waste material from the quarry.
We enjoyed the walk, even if we were blown to bits by the wind - the views were just awesome.
There were also a lot of sheep on the walk - you can see a few to the right there sheltering from the wind. Its lambing season and these all looked like they hadnt given birth yet, so we were very careful to give them space and keep our distance from them.
We loved the walk - and will be taking in more parts of the coastal path on our remaining few days in the area. Plus its great to get some exercise while we are on vacation !

I'm starting to think there are zero intact buildings in all of Wales at this point! I'm kidding of course. What stunning views! The photos are quite amazing. This looks like a really beautiful place to walk. I can only imagine how crazy the wind is out there.
Lol - there are quite a few buildings that are ruins ! I have to say the coastal path has been superb - its something we'd consider coming back to do more off.

I saw some of the waves along the coast of the UK today. Those winds are no joke!
Aye, I saw that, Cornwall had some pretty impressive waves. It wasnt that bad here in terms of waves - although the winds were pretty high ! We were in one of the ruined castles yesterday, and I was on one of the upper floors and got blown against a grating that was covering a window opening - quite glad it was there !
Oh wow, that is definitely scary! I can't even imagine. We get some bad winds here because of the great lakes, but probably nothing like what they get off the ocean.
Not having bene out of the house much this past week seeing this walk was just what the Dr ordered, such beautiful scenery, love the water views and old brick buildings
Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk, Sorry last week was a bit rough for me and I not only did not get out for any walks, but also was not able to visit all the walks from last week, but feeling better this week and visiting posts again which is always fun for me to visit the walks from all around the world, getting a feel for communities where people live and what they see on their daily walks
Many thanks - the scenery here is just awesome !

Impressive those sea views dear, but for me the most impressive thing is the brick factory, I love this building material, I love any type of construction that uses it, so much so that I plated the entrance of my house with bricks, so I see them every day hahahaha.
Nice - brick buildings like these are quite common in the UK.
