My younger sister has found herself in similar situation, company liquidated, took the vehicle which they had promised her. Living in Johannesburg now found she drives sons vehicle who lives in flatlet on premise, or orders an Uber which works out as a cost saver for her at the moment.
Where we live Uber is out of the question, excessively expensive, I shared the vehicle with my son which we have done for over ten years to bring costs down within the home, sold the wrong vehicle 5 years ago I should have hung onto my low rider automatic.
Corrected the mistake and this is the first and last new car of my lifetime, yes I am happy it will give me that little extra freedom.

It can be tough in more remote places. As I hear you found solutions too for the time being/ years I mean. It makes your new car extra special I think, as it does sound you need it for getting around.
