Today I want to share some of my adventures of wandering around off the beaten paths in southern Spain πͺπΈ To be precise: βThe reservoir and itβs hidden Old Bridge ~ Charco Redondo Reservoir/ Embalse del Charco Redondo.β Just above Los Barrios. Driving from Algeciras to Jerez de la Frontera you pass it by.

Todayβs selection will be of 26 photographs, where I take you along on a walk next to the lake/ embalsa.

I will follow the time stamps on my photographs. So it looks like you are walking along with me on this #Walk ππ»ππ»ππ» discovering everything and see the little #details through my eyes. π
Let me show you first its location on Google maps, see the yellow star βοΈ :
Letβs start our WALK:

I went off the main road and hit a small backroad. That would take me on the left side of the main road, where I go under a bridge and park the car.
Letβs start walking π
We see this road ahead of us.
We keep walking further and see some buildings on the right. They are guarded by a cute little dog π
We walk further until we have an area where we can see the reservoir really well. It is steep down so we stay on the road.
We look over the water and the dried out bits and see this bridge:
The water is low enough to show us an old (normally hidden) Bridge. π€π
Zooming in a bit.
We just see the top part of the arches.
Left side of it.
Right side of it. You see also the old road uncovered by the water.

This bridge was fully uncovered 2 years ago. And #submerged after again. But now after the summer it is showing again. The #water levels are not enough.
This water reservoir is for farm water and the villages. As you can see not enough left.
#Drought is more a common thing the last years than ever before. π―
Zooming out again for you to see the whole area of this #reservoir.
Even though itβs sad because of the water levels, it is still so beautiful to see the old bridge/ La #antigua #puente. ππ€© The surroundings of this setting.
As we walk further, I notice some died plants on the side of the roadβ¦ I love details as you may know already ππ€ so I had to capture them. πΈ

And we walk furtherβ¦
Suddenly I spot something. As Iβm not sure what it is. I take a closer look:
The top of it.
The bottom side of it.
It is definitely some kind of cocoon π€ about 3 cm long.
Very interesting to seeβ¦ one last capture from afar. π
At the far end of this road we decide to walk back to the car. As we know the sun will set soon. π
We see some more dried flowers along the road.
I capture them too, as you know #alwaysaflower is needed π₯° even some weeds are pretty.
We see the reservoir again through the treesβ¦
Some leaves are bright green, such a stark contrast with all the brown around us. π
Closer to the carβ¦ we see the sun still just reaches the treesβ¦
And shines through them for us. π
A little further we reach the car, and say bye bye for nowβ¦ ππ» Talk soon βΊοΈ

That area is sooo beautiful. I love viewing open fields and large areas of land. I love how you showed us the photos in order so we could truly travel the same path with you.
Yes, there is definitely some type of creature that occupied that cocoon :D

I was wondering that it could have been a praying mantis egg. As I had some in the garden when I lived up the mountain. But never seen the egg case of them.

It was my pleasure @littlebee4! Yep, it's probably of the native European species. The eggs overwinter in that cozy little egg case, then then baby mantises hatch out in spring. Have a lovely evening! πππβ¨π€
Aawww how cute, I like watching and observing praying mantises π such a wonderful creatures. Their little heads do follow youβ¦ when you work in the garden. As I would observe them they do me. π₯°

Such a beautiful area and a fantastic walk, seems all around the world, there is problems with water levels in reserviors being lower than they used to be

It is indeed a great area to walk, mainly trails around there. It is really in the middle of nowhere when you go a bit higher up. So it is nice.
Yes the water shortage is a few years now and it gets worse and worse. All over the world people feel, notice it.

This is a beautiful bridge surrounded by beautiful scenery. Looking at your photos, it's almost as if I can "hear" the absolute silence in the area...
Is there another bridge in the area as well? Or how do people cross to the other side when this bridge is below the water level?

Aawww it was so silence there⦠nobody around. Just nature, hubby and me.
Yes, there is a large road and bridge. A bit further around the corner to the left when you look at the old bridge. Not visible from the place I stood. We did walk about half an hour from it. So it is an large are. That new bridge does go over the reservoir but where it is standing no water is left. Just towards the right of the old bridge.

So, the cocoon was a praying mantis egg shell... now that's interesting! I've never seen one of those before. When I find them in the garden (or even in the house sometimes), I love letting them get on my hand. But I've never seen an egg shell such as this... Very interesting!

Apparently the egg shell contains more eggs, and they crawl out in spring.
This was my first too.
I had a large praying mantis in my garden up in the mountains some years ago. After a while it came also on my hand when I was outside. So coolβ¦ like a little pet π€π

Yes, they do recognise you. Especially when they live in your garden. They come to you too, when you are patient. Such a cute and interesting creatures. Their little heads looking so alien like.

Wow, the landscape once again looks like something out of a hollywood movie.
Did you go over the bridge or is it unstable?

The side I was on was to steep to go down to the bridge. If I passes by next time and have time, I maybe check out the other side if I can get there.

Hey there gorgeous, I need to head over to you blog to catch up on all of the things that you guys have been up to in your adventurous and exciting life!
It's a good thing that I am at work all weekend as I'm totally broke from my holiday, and I'm able to take Indy in with me so she doesn't screech all day out of loneliness and now she's getting used to other humans too, which is what I want her to be (not that my boss knows I take her to work with me on the weekends...lol..

Hello @chocolatescorpi ππ»π and we did have some new adventures hehehe and travels to the US and I bought a new camera, as my old DSLR died in 2019. Finally I could replace it.
More adventures await us soon. And we surely have an exciting life π€
Guess whatβ¦ we are moving out of Spain next month ππ€ so Iβm packing up again after only just moved into here.
Movers booked for the 16th of December and our Flights are booked for the 19th of Decemberβ¦ βοΈπ€©
Canβt wait to tell you all about it. Soon I will. π€ country 6 for me. And not the big move we were planning for a year. That one changed 180 degreesβ¦
