A Lunch Walk In Karlberg Palace Park

in Wednesday Walk3 years ago

Last Friday the sun was shining and it was possible to take a longer break from work and go out for a walk before having lunch. It's still cold though, about 0 degrees Celsius. As you also can see from the long shadows in the pictures, the sun is low even in the middle of the day.

This walk is actually in a military area but it's open to the public. It's called Karlberg Palace park. Some weeks ago I walked here with a friend who had never entered the area because he was too scared and didn't believe you were actually allowed. I found that to be a bit funny since there's a clear sign.

When I was younger (this is over 10 years ago now) I also lived close to this park (different flat) and back then I kind of always worked out in the morning before going to work and I used to run here. I had so much energy back then...getting up at 5.30 am and easily stayed up until midnight...

In the park, there's an obstacle course but it's reserved for the military. There's a sign that says it's because of the high risk of injuries.

In this picture, you can also see a red fence in the background. On the other side is a highway so it's not so peaceful here as you hear the heavy traffic but at least you don't see it.

Maybe you can see the stop sign.

There were a few people in the park but I prefer to take pictures without people (unless I'm shooting portraits). But as you can see, not many. Before taking this picture there was a lady with a dog. By the way, there are so many dogs everywhere. I guess it might be a global phenomenon but here in Sweden, so many people have bought a dog during the pandemic.

This building was built in 1792 in honor of the sea god Neptune and was first called Neptuni Temple. In the 20th century, it was instead called Temple of Diana but from my quick research, it's not clear why.

Here is the actual palace, built in the 1630s. Since 1792 the Military Academy Karlberg is in operation here.

It was a bit of a challenge to get a clear picture of it due to the strong backlight. I had to find a spot where the sun was 'hiding' behind a tree 🙂

But this is actually from the backside. It's way bigger than it looks in this picture. I didn't really plan to write a post about this palace so I didn't get a picture from the front side but I'll keep this in mind for a future post. (For that I have to be on the other side of the water).

The buildings you can see in the background are on a hill and are close to where I live (actually, I used to live in one of those buildings). They are on the other side of the water. The white building to the right is also part of the palace so hopefully you get an idea of the size of it.

Despite being a military area this park is child friendly 🙂. (If I were to visit this park on a weekend there would be more people).

Leaving the park.

On my way back home. I don't know if it's easy to follow but I live kind of just across this park, on the other side of the water. So here the park is on the left side (not really visible) and I live on the right side of the water.

Here you can actually kind of see the palace again, the white building to the left.

That little pavillion is gorgeous! And the architecture, what a pleasure to walk there. The ice makes it even more magical @mamrita a wonderful #wednesdaywalk for sure.

Thank you so much for this kind comment 🙂

I'm glad you enjoyed it 🌸

Such grand buildings and love the king shadows
Best to stay off the military confidence course they can be dangerous if one is not careful or even if you are and make a mistake
I had a bad injury on one when I was first in the army

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

Ah, is that the correct word, military confidence course. Confidence course, makes sense I guess although it can't all be about confidence 🙂

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad injury on one. Don't worry, I have no intention of trying it out. I'm not in good enough shape for anything like that.

Actually I think you got it right with the term obstacle source, which make smore sense, not sure how I came up with confidence course, perhaps thats what we called them when I was in the army many years ago

Ok, great. Then I know 🙂

Really interesting to see parts of your world.

People went dog mad here too.

Thanks for stopping by 🙂

It's still so cold here, it's a challenge. 2 days ago there was a snowstorm. I didn't leave the house, haha.

Wow, it's still warm here, I don't really want winter to come..

Beautiful scenery ,there is a little snow and good photos.like it, thank you.

Thanks for stopping by 🙂
