Walk through Munn's Pond County Park ... Three Ponds were created on this small creek by pinching it off at key places.
Map posted along the trail gives you view of the walk I took ...
SO LETS GO ...
First pond appears right at the start ...
.
Nice size little pond that has an ever so thin sheet of ice on the surface.. Created from the cold night before ...
Coming up to where the next pond is dammed ...
Looking down creek standing on the small wooden crossing ...
Another nice pond totally surrounded woods ...
Trail then meanders away from the ponds in what "was" once a mature Pitch Pine forest ...
Everywhere you looked there were large trunks of cut Pine trees along the way ...
Others uncut, standing like skeletons reaching for the sky....
There were a tremendous amount of dead trees littering the view.. You could see this was once a grand pine forest but no more...
The demise happened quickly, caused by the influx of the Southern Pine Beatle.. They bore holes girdling the trunk and eventually killing the tree.. The cut pines were done to healthy trees to prevent the spread of the Beatle ...
Coming up to the last dam ...
Pleasant view from the wooden bridge of the froze over pond ...
Walking back on the other side of the ponds you walk through more dead Pines but young trees are emerging in the open areas...
Coming to the end of my walk ..
Animal rehabilitator Tammy, surprises me at the walks end with a close view of a Long Eared Owl ...
