Wednesday Walk: A walk on the last Sunday of summer.

in Wednesday Walk2 years ago

Hi everybody!

Today I want to tell you about a walk I took on the last Sunday of summer. On Sunday, after lunch, I wanted to wander around the center of Moscow and I decided to listen to my desire.

A walk around Moscow begins with the metro.

I drove to the Taganskaya station and went out onto Goncharnaya Street.

There I photographed a house built in 1939. It's hard to see in the photo, but take my word for it - the house is very pretty with many interesting architectural details:

Further on my route was "Bunker-42". It's the Cold War Museum. This is really an underground bunker located at a depth of 65 meters. The area of the bunker is 7 thousand sq.m. The bunker began to be built under Stalin as a shelter for the Soviet government in case of a nuclear war. After the collapse of the Union, the bunker was declassified, it was bought by the Novik-Service company and made there a Cold War museum, which has been operating since 2006:

At the intersection of Goncharnaya Street and Bolshoy Vatin Lane, there is another interesting museum - the Museum of Russian Icons named after Mikhail Abramov:

This is a private museum created on the initiative of businessman Mikhail Abramov in 2006. The museum does not conduct any commercial activities and exists at the expense of the Abramov family. Admission and guided tours of the museum are free.

The founder of the museum, Mikhail Abramov, died in a plane crash in August 2019, and since then the museum has been named after him.

Passing Goncharnaya Street, I decided to see how the courtyard of a residential building on Kotelnicheskaya Embankment looks like. This house was built under Stalin. There are seven such buildings in Moscow in total. The main building of Moscow State University, the hotel "Ukraine", the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have a similar architecture.

I approached the back of the house. It became interesting to me what was in the courtyard of the famous house and I turned off Goncharnaya Street onto the stairs, which I went down to the courtyard.

And in the yard is such a cool house ....

nothing!

Apart from the brutal garages, designed in the same style as the house, I did not see anything interesting. I didn't even see the playground. Maybe somewhere and there, but I have not seen.

Another uninformative photo from the courtyard of the house:

I'm moving on....

... over the bridge over the Yauza River ....

... to Solyanka street. Curious place! From here begins the famous Khitrovka - the habitat of homeless people, prostitutes and criminals in pre-revolutionary times.

Here on Solyanka there are former underground salt warehouses. Diggers willingly master them, and I don’t even know how to get there.

There is also a very nice house with Atlantes on Solyanka.

Not far from the house with Atlantis, near the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin, in 2010 a memorial appeared in memory of the victims of Beslan.

In less than a week, we will remember this tragedy again. But I won't write anything about it. Those who are interested can read about this terrorist attack on Wikipedia. And I still remember my emotions when I found out about the attack. It was very scary and very painful!

After that, I walked for some time, immersed in my unhappy thoughts. I returned to reality at the Kitaigorod wall.

On my way was Zaryadye Park. That's where I went.

As it turned out, the 5th festival of the Russian Geographical Society was held in the park.

20220828_174108.jpg

Apparently, the event was very interesting and lasted for several days. But I got to the festival in the last hours of work, which I now regret very much. I will try not to miss this festival next year.

20220828_172559.jpg
I didn't see much.

There was a concert "From Kalinka to Lezginka" on the stage, but it was impossible to approach the stage. I got on the side and took a couple of shots.

Caucasian dance:

The orchestra performs folk music:

20220828_173230.jpg

Since I couldn’t watch the concert due to the large crowd of people around the stage, I went for a walk around the festival venues. I passed by the "Arktika" cluster, but did not go inside the pavilion...

... and went to the Square of Regions. The name of this cluster speaks for itself. Pavilions of Russian regions were installed in this part of the park. In the pavilions, one could get acquainted with the history and sights of the region, as well as get acquainted with the culture of the peoples inhabiting the region.

The pavilion of the Krasnodar Territory has already completed its work:

I did not look at other pavilions.

Went to souvenirs. There, as always, mugs, bags, T-shirts, magnets. You could also buy dried meat delicacies:

Leaving the park, I noticed that pavilions for the participants of the Spasskaya Tower festival had already been installed on Vasilevsky Spusk. This is a festival of military bands, which has been held since 2006.

This ended my walk. I wanted to catch the express to my house, so I went towards the subway.

On the way to the metro, I could not resist and photographed the former apartment building of the Trinity Compound, which is located at the intersection of Ilyinka Street and Birzhevaya Square. Look how handsome!

And also, the Church of the Epiphany is also very good, and a monument to the Likhud brothers:

My walk ended where it started - in the subway. The last thing I photographed that day was a wall mosaic in the lobby of the Ploshad Revolutsii station:

As a result, I did not go very much - only 13 thousand steps, but the walk turned out to be intense.

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

A city with really beautiful structures and sculptures! I also saw some places with nature like parks that were really nice too. There is a lot of history in those streets.
Wonderful tour!
