I'm not a very "religious" person, I do believe in God and his power, but I do not believe in the church as it is an institution ruled by men, and those men are, well, not very trustworthy. I imagine probably studying in a catholic school for thirteen years can leave a bit of a mark, especially on people like me, not used to accepting the "*because it's written that way*" kind of answer, but that's not the subject to discuss, nor the place to do so.
Anyways, last week was "Holy Week" a religious holiday, also known as "Passion Week", in western Christianity where a series of traditions takes place each day of the week: Palm Sunday (Sixth Sunday of Lent) Holy Monday, and Holy Tuesday. Holy Wednesday (Spy Wednesday). Maundy Thursday. Good Friday. Holy Saturday (Black Saturday). Easter Vigil. Easter Day.
No soy una persona muy "religiosa", sí creo en Dios y en su poder, pero no creo en la iglesia ya que es una institución regida por hombres, y esos hombres son, bueno, no muy confiables.Imagino que probablemente estudiar en un colegio católico durante trece años puede dejar un poco de huella, sobre todo en gente como yo, no acostumbrada a aceptar el tipo de respuesta "porque está escrito así", pero ese no es el tema a discutir, ni el lugar para hacerlo.
La semana pasada fue la "Semana Santa", una fiesta religiosa, también conocida como "Semana de la Pasión", en el cristianismo occidental, en la que se celebran una serie de tradiciones cada día de la semana: Domingo de Ramos (Sexto Domingo de Cuaresma) Lunes Santo y Martes Santo. Miércoles Santo (miércoles de espías). Jueves Santo. Viernes Santo. Sábado Santo (Sábado Negro). Vigilia Pascual. Día de Pascua.
For this #WednesdayWalk, I walked a bit of the procession of the Nazarene, this day, a group of parishioners carries the image of Jesus of Nazareth, simulating the way to the place where He was crucified, carrying the heavy wooden cross and enduring humiliations of all kinds, according to the bible. Many people accompany the image to ask for favors or thank God for a granted one.
The image is decorated with lots of beautiful flowers, and purple fabric to emulate royalty. Around twenty people are in charge of carrying the images, as they seem pretty heavy.
Para este #WednesdayWalk , recorrí un poco la procesión del Nazareno, este día, un grupo de feligreses lleva la imagen de Jesús de Nazaret, simulando el camino hacia el lugar donde fue crucificado, cargando la pesada cruz de madera y soportando humillaciones de todo tipo, según la biblia. Muchas personas acompañan a la imagen para pedir favores o dar gracias a Dios por alguno concedido.
La imagen está decorada con muchas y hermosas flores, y con telas moradas para emular a la realeza. Unas veinte personas se encargan de llevar las imágenes, ya que parecen bastante pesadas.
Accompanying the image of Jesus of Nazareth, is the image of the Virgin Mary, called "La Dolorosa" (the sorrowful), because her face denotes the sadness of a mother who accompanies her son in his last moments.
Acompañando a la imagen de Jesus de Nazareth, va la imagen de la virgen María, llamada "La Dolorosa", pues en su cara se denota la tristeza de una madre que acompaña a su hijo en sus últimos momentos.
To accompany the procession with a little music, a band plays at each of the fourteen stops that are made to complete the viacrusis.
Para acompañar la procesion con un poco de música, una banda toca en cada una de las paradas que se hacen, en total catorce, para completar el viacrusis.
It is a very nice tradition for the believers and it is actually quite exciting and gives chills every time the band starts playing the sacred music.
Es una tradición muy linda para los creyentes y en realidad es bastante emocionante y da escalofrios cada vez que la banda empieza a tocar la musica sacra.
On a cultural level, these traditions are truly representative of the faith of most Venezuelans. Large numbers of people gather every year to celebrate their faith.
A nivel cultural, estas tradiciones son realmente representativas de la fe de la mayor parte de los venezolanos. Grandes cantidades de personas se reunen cada año para celebrar su fe.
