I spent an intimate time with my 7-year-old child when I had a Wednesday walk with her at the beach. This precious moment I created when we are alone together is valuable and long-lasting.
The Venue
The day was fine. We are still in the Christmas break season, and my child doesn’t have classes thus, she can go anywhere I wanted to go. During our Christmas party, I took her with me to the venue of our big celebration. It took 40 minutes to travel by vehicle before reaching the place. We arrived at 9:15 in the morning. Upon our arrival, I and my child were astonished by the captivating ambiance of Rica Beach Resort, located at San Remegio, Cebu. It was still elegant although the construction and the beautification of the place were still ongoing.
We rented a small cottage where we can place our belongings. When everything was set, my child approached me and said: “Nay (own dialect which means mother), can we take a walk at the beach? Let’s check and see the beauty in it and what’s in there.” Since we reside in a mountainous area, and this was the first to visit here, my child doesn’t have any ideas yet about this resort. The program was not started early so, I agreed to have a short walk toward the shoreline.
The Granting of my Child’s Demand
As we headed toward the beach, my child was stunned by the fireplace that she had seen along our way. It was so funny on my part because I don’t know what is that thing that she was referring to and it was peculiar to me. I was a little bit ashamed of myself as a mother, my child is better at these things. So she asked my favor to have a photo opportunity of it as she had seen the real one already.
We were about to reach the beach but again she was awe-struck by the beds on the beach with an umbrella made of cement. She grasped this chance again and have a photoshoot here as she laid on the bed. This was her, she was delighted upon doing so. It made me happy too because she was already enjoying “though we haven’t explored yet.
At the shoreline
Now we were here. It was low tide. Beachcombing would be merrier but our time was not enough. The surrounding was still alluring. We both appreciated the captivating beauty in it. At this time, I was able to give a little knowledge to my child about the goodness of the sun to the sea. I told her that both of them are best buddies. The living creatures that live in the sea are dependent on the sun. Without it, they don’t have lives too. Same with humans, we need the sun to survive.
I led her to the boats that were tied to the trees so that they wouldn't be carried away by the waves. I told her that these objects are to be used by the fisherman when they will be catching fish in the middle of the sea. I added that fishing is not that easy, it needs more strategies and techniques to have an abundant catch. And off we continue our informative walk.
When we turned around, we have seen the huge rocks in different formations. These were naturally formed by nature. She tried to climb, pose, and smile, and I gave her a shot. The genuine smile of my child was tender. She was very true to herself. I was pleased as her official photographer of the day. I’m super-duper joyful watching her happy.
The Curiosity
As we continued walking, she had lots of questions. First, she asked, where did the seawater go? I answered her religiously, “During my elementary years my child, I learned from my Science teacher that due to the gravitational pull of the moon on Earth, and its rotational force are the main reasons why there is the occurrence of low and high tides.
From a distance, she had seen some of the settlers in this place picking up some sea creatures. Secondly, she asked me: “What are they picking?” I explained clearly that what they were doing is beneficial. Those sea shells hand-picked by them can be eaten. It can be served as their viand for lunch. I added that if a person is hard-working, they will not be hungry. This is one of the advantages of living near the sea because we can get sea shells that can be used as a dish. All fresh and no chemicals used.
After our short discussion about the questions that perplexed her, we moved in the opposite direction of our walk. There she had seen huge trees around. Then she asked me, “Why there were huge trees around? Are they essential? Why they were not cut so they can construct more small huts here?” I answered, of course, these trees are beneficial to our ecosystem. They provide a cool breeze and it made the area more relaxing. They prevent also the soil from erosion. She nodded and said, now I know. I learned a lot.
We were done with our educational walk. And off we went back to our venue.
The Reward and the Realization
My heart was delighted to have seen my child’s reactions with fulfillment. It made me glad too that we have bonded a lot. After walking, I let her take bathe at the swimming pool. This was one of the purposes why I brought her with me. The joyance that she felt was times two to mine. I never regretted bringing her because she was enjoying it to the fullest.
I learned a lot from this walk. Some lessons can be learned from a child that are valuable, like being true to yourself, listening with respect while somebody is talking, equality time with a child is worthy, and having fun all the time even the simple act. These were instilled in my heart and my mind. And because of these, I gave a tap to myself for creating another beautiful memory of my life. My child couldn’t dare to forget this and will be inspired more.
Before we went home, we watched the beautiful sun as it gives an orange color to the sky. As it sets, I felt ecstatic and thankful for the wonderful day given to us by Him. The day spent was priceless. It was indeed an amazing day!
