Architecture in Old Bend - Wednesday Walk

in Wednesday Walk3 years ago
Here are some shots of a walk I took around the hisotric district of Bend Oregon. I was able to capture some images of the early architecture in the city. As you will see stone and brick seemed to be the favored construction material.

Reid School built in 1914 now serves as the Bend Historical Museum.

A last shot with a little more light on the subject. :)

The Bend Amateur Athletic Club Gymnasium now serves as a Boys and Girls club center. It opened in 1918 and was immediately put to use as a hospital during the pandemic.

The gymnasium, which is a blend of Mission and Jacobean styles, is distinguished by decorative concrete plaques that depict Native American athletes.

In the following pictures I tried to capture some of the style and plaques mentioned in the quote above from the web site.

A couple of the churches in the area.

My last stop on the walk, the former St Francis of Assisi school which is now a pub as you can see. :)

Lovely. I've heard great things about Bend and hope to see it one day.

There is a lot to see and do in the city and the surrounding area. I live about 30 minutes away and try to visit a couple times a month. Things are a little slow right now due to the pandemic but usually there is plenty to keep you busy. :)
