Wednesday Walk through Renmin Park, Changzhou

in Wednesday Walk2 years ago

For my Wednesday Walk, I decided to wander around Renmin Park, a tiny greenspace in city center of Changzhou, a Chinese city between Nanjing and Shanghai on high speed real. It's a tiny place, and here is what I saw.

This tiny temple has been closed for years. Some local news outlets have reported problems with a leaking roof, In the short amount of time this place was open, it was more of place where old people could sit at long tables and drink tea or hot water in a place of religious iconography rather than being a place of real worship.

Near to that is a stone pavilion dedicated to the face of Jizi / Jizha, the spiritual grandfather of Changzhou going back thousands of years where the city had a few other names. He was issued a dukedom over the area because he refused to take part in court politics in terms of succession to a larger seat of power elsewhere.

There is a proper statue dedicated to him at the center of the park. But, then again this Wednesday Walk is in the center of a Chinese city, where you have boutiques with questionable English name.

Thanks for joining the Wednesday, its always fun for me to visit the walks from all around the world, getting a feel for communities where people live and what they see on their daily walks
